Hi,

I want to share something that happened to me yesterday. We celebrated Easter yesterday at our house, as my oldest daughter came home from University for the weekend + needs to be on a 7 pm bus back to school today. Several family members were here to celebrate. I have lost most of my hair from irenotecan, but it started to grow back + in February my oldest daughter cut what little was left of my longer hair to give me a uniform length. I usually put a scarf on when company is over, but my head started to get warm yesterday. Two of my nieces, ages 6 + 3 1/2 were over, + they had not seen me with my very short hair. I told my sister I wanted to take my scarf off but wouldn't if it would "scare" the kids. She said she didn't think they would be scared, but there might be questions. I took off the scarf, + a few minutes later, the 6 year old came in + sat on the sofa beside me. She looked at me + asked "why is your hair so short?" I said "I have had some special medicine + it caused my hair to fall out, but it is starting to grow back + it is really soft, would you like to feel it?" "Yes" she said, "Oh it is soft!" Her little sister came into the room too + I saw her whispering to her mom + looking at me. The next thing I knew she was on the sofa too. A few minutes later, the 6 year old said "I think I'd like really short hair!" (her hair is waist-length now). How sweet! Then my brother (her uncle) said to her "I can do that, where are the scissors?" My poor niece! She said "Oh, I was just kidding". Before she left, she said quietly "I hope your hair grows back". I said to her "Thanks, I hope so too". My husband, 2 daughters + I talked about this after. My 21 year old said "the great thing about that age is they are curious but not judgemental". How true. And how I felt the support in my battle from my family, even my 6 year old niece. I loved being with my family, + hope any + all of you who celebrate Easter have a wonderful one as I had/am having. And if you don't celebrate Easter, I hope you have wonderful times with family+/or friends as I did yesterday!

I love love love that story...what a joyous thing children and family can be. I am sitting waiting for 15 to arrive for Easter dinner...one hour to go....I always get nervous at this point...silliness

I remember when the doctors told me that my liver mets were too big to cope and that I would surely want to get my affairs in order. My nephew...about 25 at the time said....but Aunt Mag! what if they are wrong....I don't think you will die!!! he was the only one who said that and it turned out to be true....well for a little while anyhoo

    blessings and hugs to all

    Mags,

Your nephew was totally right! You have shown cancer who is boss! I have many nieces + nephews now some grand-nieces + nephews + they have all been so encouraging + supportive. I hope you had a wonderful time; I know what you mean - sometimes I get worried before company - am I up to it, do I look OK, etc. But usually I am so happy that I did it. For me, yesterday was totally magical!

Hi, thank you for sharing your story! I teach preschool and am pretty much bald. I wore a wig for a while, scarves and hats, but sometimes, just can't stand anything! My kids know I am on "special medicine" that causes my hair to come out. They are ok with it, which is good because I often get hot flash that causes me to want to scream! I pull off my hat and just relax. The kids blame other stuff on me "special Medicine" too! Like when I can't do something I need to do! But they never blame me! When the weather was warm last summer I put blue spike gel in my hair! The kids love to see it in my hair and ask what color I will get next! (orange!!!) Have a wonderful Easter, you are blessed to have your family with you! Jean

    Happy Easter
What a wonderful story! Children are just curious about things, and if you give them answers that are aprpropriate for them, they do so well with things.

    Thanks for sharing. Happy Easter!

Just loved your Easter and Family story
Loved your story! Reminds me of the days when my immediate family of 64 used to always get together. Now that 64 is like 98 or some crazy number. From everyones kids having kids.

My 3 boys were all working at all different times and no one would be here together on Easter so I didn't cook. They got Easter baskets. LOL They always do. Yes even at 22, 19 and 16. This year they all got car wash buckets with all the goodies for their cars and candy too. My landlord helped with their baskets he and his wife are just the nicest people. He tells my boys to call him Pop!

I cooked Easter dinner on Monday when they were all home. Not working. When my husband got home from work we had all the fixins ready and we pigged out. Just the five of us. We giggled like five year olds and ate until we were miserable and I made probably not the most healthy dinner but made everybodys favorites which I hardly ever do, so everybody was smiling. I don't want them getting what I did so I don't cook fried, or gravies, or sweets or you know home southern cooking very often. I love too; and I love it. But they are not going to get sick because of me. But they were very happy on Easter Monday!!LOL
Hope you all had a great family day!!!!
