The thought about it came to mind because either tomorrow or the next day I'm going to the Federal Building to apply for my SS and I was wondering what to expect going through the metal detector - have never been through one with my 'good' pros which is weighted with little "BB's", just with 'the little fluff thingy' shortly after surgery.0 -

My Plastic Surgeon says that
My Plastic Surgeon says that the metal in my expanders will set off the detectors at the airport. I carry a letter from him stating that I have had the bilateral mastectomy and expanders with a metal disk. I also have my plastic "boob card".
Hope this helps...

Ok there is something I haven't heard yet. Like that doesn't happen every day now. i did think about the metal detector thing. How wonderful. You get to flash a doctor letter letting some airport person or cop know you have no boob?0 -

As awful as it sounds yes... A "boob" card (actually its called a "device identification card")is the size and shape of a credit card but has a photo of an expander on it and the metallic component. it says is not compatible with MRI and may be detected by security screening devices....

Well the card sounds much better than a letter. Thanks0 -
B-B's ? ? ? ?tigger99 said:I carried my Device ID card
I carried my Device ID card for my tissue expander when I traveled. But the expander never once set off a metal detector, so the card stayed in my wallet. Not sure about a prosthesis, though.
I think my fake boob is all silicone. I'm gonna ask my "boob" lady when I see her next week for more bras. Can you feel the B-B's?
I wondered about my port setting off alarms but I think that's plastic...I will ask my surgeon when I see him for a follow-up next week too. (Busy week planned) I will also find out how long I can keep my wonderful port. Forever I hope. I have a Port Card in my wallet.
I did set off alarms going into the court house last week but they said it was the metal trim on my jacket. After all that I was in the wrong building. What a hoot.
Am anxious to hear about everyone's fake boob with B-B's. Something new everyday... Being a pink warrior is definitley not boring!
Hugs all, Judy :-)0 -

The fitter is the one who called them B-B's but aren't really one's that you would use in a BB gun but are much smaller. There's a bunch of them in the form that you can see and they sort of migrate around.

Mine is definitly just silicone. I pushed and squeezed and no little b-b's. Your sounds kinda cool. Mine's boring compared to yours. :-(

Your oncologist can give you a card to carry if you afraid it might set the detector off. I thought I would need one when they inserted the titanium marker in me, but, they removed it when they did the lumpectomy.0
