RECENT CANCER SURGERY

Since this is my 5th cancer surgery, I didn't know which subject to start with. I am a survivor and am still working way past retirement....I have been diagnosed with the genetic mutation gene. Finaly after 20 years, because of our family history the last hospital said .. you need to be tested for the mutation. Had I known I was born with this, I probably would have been tested or screened more frequently. Good luck out there! ANY QUESTION? I would love to chat with anyone concerned with their cancer and or treatment.

    More details please! :) What kind of surgery did you have done? How is recovery going? there are a few on here with the hereditary genetic mutation, I don't remember what it's called.

    cololon surgery
    MARY: It is called lynch syndrome. I had a resection of the rectum to cut away a 5 c malignant tumor. Also a removal of a 3 c polyp which was not cancer.It has been a year yesterday. Colon was clear and full body scan was clear AS OF MARCH 2010.I choose no treatment as I am older and I am very active. I had ovarian and uterine cancer in 1988 . Had 28 treatments. Had double masectomy in 1990 and 1998. no treatment. Anyone that has had any cancer is just waiting and hoping it doesn't return. DORIS

    Since my grandfather had colorectal cancer, I had the genetic testing done. I do not have the mutation, and thankfully almost all my family has had colonoscopies (aunts, uncles, cousins, cats, dogs, even some goldfish I hear) because of my cancer.
    Glad you have the "survivor gene" too! As I was readying your post the "Eye of the Tiger" theme (used in Rocky) kept running through my head.

    Finally getting some of my children to get tested. Too late for my eldest daughter who died with pancreatic cancer 2 years ago. Her son is hopefully getting tested. I have been called the energy bunny that keeps on going. Thanks for posting.

    I have had a colon resection 2 years ago and just had part of my lung removed. They tested me for k-raz mutation but have not found out the results yet. Next comes chemo again, I didn't make it through all my treatments last time so I am not going to work and stay home to keep myself healthy so I can make it through the 6 months of chemo.

    Welcome to the board, I'm a caregiver my husband dx'd with rectal cancer, completed treatments and radiation. Getting ready for liver resection (we hope) in June.

    Are you talking about being tested for KRAUS? This is new information, thanks.
    Who does the testing for the gene for others in the family? The onc.?

    It is great to hear from all survivors!

    testing for gene mutation
    I have been tested for the MSH1 /MSHH2/MSH6.I have the change R680X. this changed genetic
    info in the gene code result causes the MSH2 gene not to work properly. This gene is passed on in families. The test can be organized thru a genetic counselor. Call Cancer Genetic
    program 412-359-8064.Go from there to find one in your area. If you carry this gene mutation there is a 50% chance that your children carry this. If you do not your children cannot inherit it either. I was test afater my last surgery in 2008.
