Anyone have any recommendations for a thorough, knowledgeable, experienced oncologist in and around Charlotte, NC? I'm willing to travel to near-by states if necessary. I'm a 32 year old female with 2 young children and want to stay on top of this diagnosis, esp. since it was stage 1 when it ws found. Thank you!

Urological oncologist in/around Charlotte, NC??
Dear emptyboxcars,
I am an employee of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NY and came across your post looking for a recommendation for an urologic oncologist in your area. Fortunately, there are three National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in North Carolina: UNC, Duke, and Wake Forest. These centers are known for their excellence in cancer research, treatment, and education, so you know you will be in good hands. Studies show that patients often have better outcomes when their operations are performed by surgeons who do a high volume of the same operation.
Here is the page on the NCI's web site linking to each center: http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html#NC. You might be interested in checking out each center or the one closest to you for an expert in bladder cancer.
I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck as you gather information and decide which hospital and physician is right for you. -Esther0 -
Dr. in Charlotte area for BC
I too have been dx. with bladder cancer. Please check out the website American Bladder Cancer Society. You can ask any question and someone will have the answer. I found a doctor at UNC thru this website who is one of the top BC specialists in the country.
Dr. Raj Pruthi - 919-843-8869.
At the very least, if you get help on the local level, but then have a recurrance or what not, then you will already be in a relationship with one of the premier Bladder Cancer docs. around. That is a major plus in the cancer game.
Good Luck. LORI0
