Very Dry Skin on Face with Tamoxifen
I have been on Tamoxifen for about two months. The only side effect I have so far is very dry skin on my face only. Any sugguestions for creams, oils, etc. It seems like such a little thing but it's making me very uncomforable.
My dermotologist suggested some things but none have worked. I see her again next week and will see if she has anymore ideas.
Thanks.

Dry skin
Hey Jacqui,
I've been on Tamoxifen since early last June. I also have dry skin on my face, and also on my legs. I've tried Suave Skin Therapy and also Jergens (Original Scent). They seem to help a little. I think soon I'm going to try something with cocoa butter.
I hope you find something that helps SOON! I know how annoying dry skin can be.
Good luck!

Please let me know if you find something that works. My hands and feet are the worst. I have done the gloves at night but nothing seems to work.0 -
Night cream
Jacqui,
When I was on Tamoxifen I also suffered from very dry skin on my face. Try using a thick night cream on your face. It is kind of heavy for the day time, but I found that I could use it during the day and at night without any problems.
Use a cream and not a lotion because the water content is higher in a lotion (which dries your skin out quicker).
I hope you find relief soon.0 -
Thanks
Nuff and Wolfi: Thanks for the suggestions.
Kat11: My dermatologist suggested CeraVe and Cetaphil which you probably can get at Walgreens or Walmart. They work fine for hands and feet but not for the face. I will let you know if she comes up with something for the face.

Growing up I had very oily skin and used no moisturizer on my face until I hit menopause. NOw taking Tamoxifen. What works amazingly well for me is Olive Virgin Oil by the Japanese cosmetic company DHC. It doesn't clog my pores but keeps the moisture in without being greasy. I wash my face with Olive soap to remove everything. Maybe it's because I'm partly Italian....

I use Mary Kay's extra emollient night cream on my feet and hands every night before bed. It's very thick but keeping my fingertips from cracking. To find a consultant near you go onto marykay.com. For my face I use Mary Kay TimeWise for normal to dry cleanser and moisturizer. Love them.0 -

My skin has always been dry - now it's super dry. After my dx I was on Femara then Arimidex and couldn't tolerate either. Now I'm on Tamoxifen and that's not all that much better. I've tried lots of different lotions and creams. For my body I find that either Vaseline Sheer Infusion or Vaseline Intensive Rescue Clinical Therapy seems to work for me. For my face I take make-up off with Estee Lauder creamy cleanser and use the Mary Kay intense moisturizer both at night and under my make-up - it's in a pink jar. For my hands and feet I use stuff called Triple Cream Severe Dry Skin. It's in the baby section at Target and I found our about it from a dermatologist I saw on the Today Show. In the shower I use Canus goat milk soap and I think they have a moisturizer that I'm going to try. You can look on line to see where you can find their products - I found it at a grocery store and Walgreens drug carries it. My skin doesn't feel dry at all coming out of the shower and I moisturize immediately. I think you just have to try different things to see what works best for you.0 -

Let us know what your dermatologist recommends next and if it works. Hoping you can find something. Our skin is dry enough during the winter that we need help. Good luck!

I was watching some show and the Stars use vasline, sleep on satin sheets, (but thats for wrinkles) if its good enough for the stars it 's good enough for us because we are the real stars.0 -

I agree about trying the vaseline petroleum jelly. Just put it on lightly at night and see if it helps. It is cheap and should work for you.
I saw that about the satin sheets too Carkris. My Mother sleeps on a satin pillow to keep her hairdo looking nice longer. Seems to work for her.0 -
Dermotologist
Hi Everyone,
I saw my Dermotologist today. She gave me a prescription for Retin A .1%. She said it could take up to a month to work. These are her instructions: use it every other day; put Cetaphil over it 1/2 hour after I use; the days I do not use Retin A, use Cetaphil three times a day. She didn't tell me this but I read that if you use Retin A you should always use sunblock.
I'll let you know if it works.

I use straight baby oil. You put it on right after a shower - before you dry off and it really helps - but I don't use it on my face, for that I use an Aveeno Lotion0
