To all my crack pot friends
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water..
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.
But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.
'I am ashamed of myself, because
this crack in my side causes water to
leak out all the way back to your house.'
The old woman smiled, 'Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?'
'That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.'
'For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.'
Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path.

Thanks so much for this,
Thanks so much for this, Stef! I also enjoyed this so very much! I admit that I was at first shocked at the title of your post~ and I just HAD to see why you chose both crack and pot to write about! I'm really glad you cleared that up for me! LOL
Hugs from an obvious crackpot,

I guess one reply is from crack, and the other from pot...go figure!
When I first received it I thought it was going to be one of those Maxine jokes. So I was surprised but I really liked it. We all tend to see our flaws and don't recognize that they can make us special. So if I had to choose between being the perfect pot and the crackpot, I will be the crackpot every time.
Chen, you have such a way with words and such that even you double, triple or quad posts are great.

One Cracked Pot to Another
Isn't that why they say you're supposed to stop and smell the flowers?0 -
Very Beautiful
Thank you, Stef. This is a wonderful parable.
I'd say thank you from one cracked pot to another, but I didn't need to read this story to know that YOU nourish beauty and life in the world around you. (And, if you think I am just flattering you, just ask your family.)0 -

This really touched me
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful reminder of the worth we too often forget in ourselves.0 -
I'm crackpot but don't know
I'm crackpot but don't know how many flowers I watered. Maybe none. I don't have the farsight. I would have chopped up the pot and used the pieces as mulch in the flower garden. I did that once. Laid the pieces on top the ground like a mosaic tile.
I just added a picture of Cat smelling the flowers on my Expressions page.0 -
I Love This Story
I have seen and read this story more than once over the last few years and each time I read it, I enjoy it. There's always a positive to a negative. Story makes me think and brings a smile to my face.
Lots of Hugs,
Janelle0
