CT SCAN update..Need Advise
Just heard from my doctor with the results of the scan I had on Monday. She said everything looks good except they found a new .9 m spot on my liver. Now, I have 3 cysts that have not changed in years. This one has not shown up on the past 6 CT scans but she had the radiologist go back further and he found a cut that might have shown it in 2008. She said it's most likely been there the whole time and that sometimes just different cuts on the ct or even breathing might hide one. She assured me that she will go over the scans herself and that at this time we will just watch it. I am happy that she is checking it out herself. I had a lemon size tumor that wasn't diagnosed thru CT scan for 3 years and 4 CT scans. Only until I had a complete blockage and emergency surgery did they find it. Ended up Stage IIIc 8 of 38 lymph nodes positive. So much for trusting the radiologists. I want to have a good attitude but also want to be proactive. What would you all suggest? Appreciate your thoughts on this. You all always have great wisdom. Appreciate you thoughts and prayers.
Blessings and Hugs,
Debbie (gramma)

Hi Debbie,

Hi Debbie
Have they done an MRI? My husband was also stage 3, 10 out of 28 lymph nodes positive. A few months after he finished chemo he got a scare that ended up being nothing. The ct scan picked up a small spot on his liver. His surgeon followed up with an MRI of the liver and it came back clear. Don't know if this helps but he has been NED 4years.
good luck

Sonia and Valerie,
Thank you for your post. I know I'm probably just having scanxiety but talking about it with you all helps. I had such a bad experience with misdiagnoses that I'm not real comfortable with CT scans. I was wondering about a PET scan. I've not had one and think they will only give me one if there is an indication that something else is going on. I've had brain MRI's but not any on my abdomin.
Thanks for you kindness, we all know how much we mean to each other. Sometimes just venting helps.

My experience
I had to go to the emergency room a couple of months ago, and they ended up doing a ct scan, because I was in such pain. I about fainted when the ER doc came in and asked if I'd had lesions on my liver before. NO!! Luckily they did an MRI, and that did not show anything. I talked to both my family doctor and my oncologist, and both felt the MRI trumped the ct scan.
*hugs*

Thank you Gail, I appreciate your sharing your experience. I think I'll ask my dr if I could have an MRI to put my mind to rest. I love that we can share our experiences with each other, it is so helpful to get different ideas. Thanks again

small lesion on liver
Please do post and let us know what happens. I'm in the same boat here with a new small liver lesion seen on my CT scan done on Thursday. My doctor immediately ordered an MRI so I'm waiting to get in for that in about a week. My doc said don't panic yet, it may be a "hemangioma" and not a liver met. The hemangioma he said was something akin to an enlarged blood vessel. So I'm trying not to worry yet either.

Dear One,
I'm sorry you are going thru this. I will be praying for you and hope you let us know how things are going. Sounds more and more like I should request an MRI. Who ever thought we would be hoping for a hemangioma. You take care.

A PET scan is a good idea, if only to see if there is any uptake to this new spot.
I've done CTs, PETs, and MRIs and as always there is no clear definitive answer...alot of times a combination of all of those scans, combined with bloodwork, will draw a more formative conclusion.
I could not tell if you were saying 9cm or 9mm? You might ask your onc if a PET would yield good information for you right now......or would it be better to wait 3 months, and do a CT/PET scan. Your bloodwork might be an indicator for your health as well. If your CEA is a reliable marker, this could tell you something as well.
Thank you so much for your post, I read it this morning. You are certainly example on how to overcome the odds.

Sorry, I
Hi Debbie
Sorry, I screwed up the liver spot was picked up by a pet/ct scan. At the time he was having pets every 3 months. I'm with you I always felt better with him having pet/ct then just cat scans! Since he's been NED for 4 years they now recommend ct scans once a year.

I had the MRI to followup on the 7mm nodule on my liver. Just got the results. It is believed to be a hemangioma and not a liver met. It will be looked at again for any changes in six months on next CT scan but right now it doesn't look like anything to worry about. Big relief!
