I sat the first few days
I sat the first few days after cath removed becuase i did not want to watch blood come out but I have been standing since...what is the reason i am reading about guys sitting? thanks

    standing vs sitting
Most of the time I sat prior to the surgery anyway....My father kinda trained me to as a child saying it makes it easier for your mother to clean the toilets....lol When I first had the cath removed I had a hard time peeing standing up....I noticed this when I was outside...live in the country and can pee pretty much freely around my house in the woods especially at night...TMI for many I'm sure...but I tell it like it is. I also feel like I am helping the environment by saving water usage...when I'm already outside of course not like I say hey gotta go and then trek outdoors...I'm not the only one...noticing my neighbor accross the lake doing it...lol

I thought did my surgeon make an error and thats why it's hard to pee standing up? Then I thought maybe it's the sling he put in during the surgery....I questioned him and he said...nope to both that it was the swelling from the pipe fitting of the uretha and bladder neck and it would go away in a short while...he was right and it improved as I recovered.
I also know I scar easy and thought maybe it's scar tissue..but it was too soon after surgery to be that...currently I can do either and feel fine.

I noticed after following Randy's advice on sitting versus standing that I feel less pain whenever I sit to pee. I guess, it is because of the lesser pressure on the anatomosis(the new connection between the bladder and the urethra). Besides, I can empty my bladder. When I am standing, I always try to stop the urine flow to stop the pain and then can not empty the bladder.

Although it may be too early to claim victory, I seem to be continent since cath removal.

I like the experience of peeing in the wood and having a manly stream but I can afford that around here. Just a joke.

Sitting is particularly important when doing Kegels while peeing... the urine lands up in the toilet bowl where it belongs and there's simply no mess to clean up.

    LOL Victor!
Yes, I just found it much easier to pee when seated...you are exactly right there is less pressure and I think you have it when standing it probably does put more pressure on the Anatomosis area and thats why I had a hard time also. When you sit...you just go ....Ahaaaaa

If you get the Tramadol let me know how it worked for you.

    Incontinence
Wow, I shouldn't be in this post. I have been incontinent for 4 years now. In the midst of getting another Botox Injection, the first one didn't work.

After reading all your comments, I believe it really is the luck of the draw. My surgeon posts dozens of men's pictures on his website, not one mention of anyone incontinent. But, he can't post mine, cause I can't give him a happy ending yet. And I mean that in terms of being incontinent and problem free. However, as a surgeon, he got all the cancer, so that was great and I don't take anything for granted.
Of course there's other things that result in incontinence. I wonder if the surgery caused me to have an over active bladder?? See,that's my problem and nothing has worked yet. AS FAR AS I KNOW MY SPHINCTER'S IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.

I was surprised when the first dose of Botox didn't paralyze my muscles like it should have, but he did give me a small dose. I have read that 88% of men see results in one week. Surprisingly, my Injection had absolutely no effect at all. I told my wife I must be Superman for all the wrong reasons.

As I stated before we are all individuals and we all encounter our own struggles. This site is the most helpful when you post and someone out there is experiencing near close to what you are and you see what magic bullet worked for them.

Hence, my comment about posting to this tread, the men who have been continent 6 weeks after surgery are truly blessed. For those of us who have been incontinent for years, we just have to fight much harder. This is no walk in the Park! And if it is a walk in the Park---It's a real Wet One!

Lion, I am sorry to hear of
Lion, I am sorry to hear of your issue… It is for sure a fear that many of us faced before surgery… I have to smile about your surgeon not posting your picture on his site because you have a post surgery issue. I would have to question his intent ……This is important for others as they selected their surgery or treatment …what are the REAL statistics of the person who is going to touch you….Some food for thought…

    4 weeks + 2 days post-op
DaVinci on 2/26. Catheter out on 3/9 and drip drip drip ever since. I have cut back to one cup/mug of coffee in the morning (vs 3-4) and notice a bit of a difference. I also don't have a drink after 6 PM or so. I had a few beers on St Patrick's Day and some good Irish whiskey (is that redundant?) after 7 PM and was up quite a few times trying to pee and doing lots of dribbling.
I think it may be slowing down...
I used to drink a lot of water, at least a gallon a day before surgery, but now drink very little. I don't know if this is a stupid question, but have you guys noticed an increase in leakage if you drink more water/gatordade/juice etc.? I think caffeine and alcohol increase leakage but I would like to get back to drinking more water and clear pee...

    What you drink
    Gumbyrun,

I have found that it does not matter with me what I drink, I still leak. Actually, although I have been told over the years watch your caffiene and alcohol consunption, I can attest at least for me-- Water goes through me just as fast if not faster. And another aspect I encounter is I vurtually leak, within minutes after drinking anything. Something I don't think I had ever heard anyone mention on this website. Hope this helps, but of course we're all different.

By the way, at the top of the list---Wine just opens up the flood gates!!!

I believe it is Trew that
I believe it is Trew that says we are all snowflakes and I have to agree based on what I have been reading that we are affected differently from what we drink… I drink every thing now 3 weeks 4 days in from surgery (with the exception of alcohol yet) and what I drink does not effect me any differently from carbonated drinks to tea, coffee and water.. I am even drinking water up 10PM now and still get up about twice a night…

    Update - more research needed
38 days or so since DaVinci and I am dry all night. Today, I spent most of the day sitting at my desk and wore the same pad all day and it was dry when I took a shower this afternoon.
I was at the beach last week and drank 3-4 cans of Coors Light and it ran right through me. However, the good news is the good beer - Guinness, various IPA's, etc., stay with me.
More research is definitely needed on that one! Also, no issues with Makers Mark or vodka/lemonade. I stay away from carbonated drinks and only one cup of coffee in the AM.

It seems to be activity that sets me off the most. Did a lot of walking also at the beach and had leakage.

Sometimes I feel like I am leaking but I'm not. Weird.

No problems with ED. I take 1/2 20 mg Cialis every 3 days or so. Orgasms are great but different...I feel it more in my legs down to my toes. I don't look but I think they curl....

Continent on day 50 or so
I was continent at night sleeping right away...but took me more time to become totally continent during the day...around 50 days or so...had Robotic on 12-29-09 with Dr. Hollensbe and Scott at Urology of Indiana. A sling was implanted during the Da Vinci. I am happy and content with both continence and ED.
