Back to school - Yea!!!
I received my BC diagnosis on 09-03-09, and was just in the first week of classes for that semester. I was fortunate to be able to drop the classes and apply for educational leave, and even received a refund of my fees. I thought at that point that I'd be able to get back in the Spring semester, but of course I'm still not done with treatments, so had to apply for an extension of my leave... But, I WILL be done soon, and am planning to go back in the Fall (since they don't grant leaves for more than 2 semesters I need to go back or I'll have to apply for admission all over again, which I just don't want to deal with - plus it will just delay getting a degree that has been delayed much too long already).
I'll only have 3 semesters to go after that - I can see the finish line to graduation! I'm SOOOO looking forward to having something else to occupy my mind besides BC treatments.
Thanks for listening!
Cindy

Way to Go Woman!
Cindy, I am vicariously enjoying your accomplishment. I was also going to school whcn dx. I thought I could handle a part-time load in school while in treatment. Didn't work out so good. Chemo-brain did me in. It was taking me eight hours to read a chapter and post to a discussion. I am so proud that you are doing it. I have abandoned my school goals, (BS in Information Tech) I will reach retirement before I can finish treatment and complete a degree. Seems kind of a waste. I figure I can always use my time in volunteer work instead of work I might have done had I gotten my degree. What is your educational goal? Seriously, I am absolutely gushy with excitment for you! I'm going for my BA in Psychology, with a minor in Human Resources Management.
My mother joked about my being ready to retire by the time I graduate, and she's not far off, either!
I'm mostly doing it for job/career security. You never know these days when you might find yourself looking for a new job, and I'd have a hard time getting my foot in the door at a lot of places without the degree, just to get a job at the same level I'm at now. Hopefully I'll have it finished before I ever have to go looking, but at least I'm close enough now to hopefully pass as "almost" finished.
I feel like I'm so close now I just have to finish!0 -

I hear you about job security. The job competition is pretty stiff these days. I hope your job doesn't disappear on you. I know too many people with stellar credentials who are having problems finding employment. Sounds like you chose a combination of major and minor that should open some doors. With your determination, I have no doubt you will finish at the head of the class. Way to go Cindy!0 -

Congratulations! 3 semesters isn't very far to go. You can do it!
Cindy you keep going you can do it! And it's never too late! I am 39 and I have continued to work on my Education Doctorate after my dx last November. The only setback is instead of completing my dissertation this summer, I won't complete it until the fall. Another good thing is that I am taking classes online now. This is another option-
