Hey, Ladies,
I'm looking forward to starting reconstruction after I'm done with chemo. I will be done in May, with 8 months of Herceptin following. I'm wondering if my port needs to be out to start reconstruction. I figure I'll do expanders/implants. Any expereince?

PS...thanks for the encouragement last week! feeling happier. I decided that when I feel down, I will just work on planning my new boobs...:)

I'm heading into the Reconstruction World/Phase of my life next. From meeting with my plastic's doctor, I do not believe you need to have your port removed. Your Oncologist will want it there until you complete the HER2 chemo. Please note...depending on the type of your port - they may not use it during surgery and may need to give you an IV instead. Best Wishes & God Bless

    Port
My port stayed in--no need to remove it.
They did not use my port for IV because didn't want to have any IV lines in the way.

    Best of luck.
