How do they remove J tube??

Hi,
Just found out my j tube is coming out on Thursday, and boy am I one happy camper. The secretary telling me had no idea how it is done so I am still waiting to find out. I was going to drive myself but does anyone know if you have to have someone with you? Do you get some medication?? I kind of can't imagine the dr just pulling it out?? But they did that after my surgery but it has been in since 12/8?? Any input would really be appreciated!!! thanks,

    Donna, my husband was just told to pull it out himself. His surgeon said that he could go to our family doctor,but that it would be fine to just remove it at home. So he went into the bathroom and slowly pulled it out. (His stitches had already loosened and started to fall out.) And that was it! I found it to be a little freaky, myself, but Jim said it felt funny for a few seconds and that was all. It had been in for about 10 weeks at the time....

    Mine started to come out
    Mine started to come out after 6 weeks. The Dr. said to pull it out - which I did - and to monitor the site for a few days to be sure it healed. The tube coming out didn't hurt - actually felt funny - and the site stopped draining in a day.

    Jeff's Surgeon pulled his out
    Donna,

    Jeff went in for his follow up appt and the doctor just yanked on it a couple of times and out it came. Made sure the whole thing came out doctor it and bandaged it and told us how to clean it for a few days, then it will close up, of course jeff wasn't driving yet when his came out so i had to drive him but its really no big deal.

    You will be relieved.

    I had mine changed today. The old one clogged up. The radiologist just cut the stitches and pulled it out. It looked really gross. It has been in since Dec. 30. Then he slid a new one in and stitched it in place. I hope that after I finish the next 3 rounds of chemo they will take it out forever. He did deaden the area a little, but that was for the new stitches. He did that after he had the old one out. No pain at all. I think you will be able to drive yourself.

    Thanks everyone. I appreciate your advice and not so scared now. The dr's office called back and said I had to have someone with me?? My tube has been in since 12/8 so maybe he is just covering his bases. Boy I could not just pull it out, you guys are braver than me. It sounds like it is simple and then hopefully will heal quickly so I can swim and hot tub. take care, prayers always,
