Wigs
I was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. I have not started chemo yet but looking for a wig but my company has privately funded insurance so they do not have to follow CT state law and cover wig cost. Great. Of course I do not want to look like I have a rat on my head. Any places that offer free decent wigs since I cannot afford one.

Carole, welcome to this
Carole, welcome to this amazing site. I didn't purchase or wear a wig but I believe you can contact your local office of the American Cancer Society and they will provide a wig. I'm sure you will be hearing from some of the other ladies on this site real soon with even more information. Good luck to you and keep posting.0 -

A free silk, hand painted scarf comes from www.franceluxe.com if you click on the Good Wishes tab once you get to the web site. It has a $70.00 value. There are many to choose from. You can email or call. They only asked if I was experiencing thinning or loss of hair and had I picked out which scarf I wanted yet. It takes a few weeks to get, but is well worth the wait.0 -
I bought my wigs from
I bought my wigs from Wigs.com
They have many brands to choose from with varying prices. The brand I bought was the Raquel Welch brand which I just love. They are comfortable and have many styles with reasonable prices. They also have online coupons to use and special markdowns. I've had many complements on my hair and people not realizing I'm wearing a wig.
Good luck!0 -

I got my wigs from the Cancer Society, Paula Young and TLC catalog. And remember don't bake with your wig on, I ruined 2 wigs that way. Opening the oven door will frizz it.
BC I always thought I looked like a big bug when I wore a baseball cap. After I lost my hair, I found out that I DO look like a big bug but I just didn't care!
I have a ball cap in every color and on those days when I don't feel like messing with my wig, I just throw one of them on and I'm out the door.
People don't look at me nearly as funny in a ball cap as they did after I met an elderly friend in KMart parking lot the other day. He wanted to see my "hair", so I plucked off my wig and showed him and then put it back on.
After he hugged me four of five more times, I bounced into KMart. I noticed people were kind and helpful but looked at me a little funny.
When I got back to the car, I noticed that my wig was, shall we say "slightly ajar"!
At least they had something to talk about the rest of the day... that poor old lady who had her wig on cock eyed and didn't even know it!! LOL0 -

Hi,
I tried some wigs on, but I thought I just looked unnatural. I have a tiny face, and they all seem so....poofy. But, anyhow, so I don't have any wig advice for you, but I found a GREAT website where I've bought a ton of really awesome headscarves and hats from.
www.headcovers.com
They have some wigs, too, all fairly reasonable. They're the most reasonably price place with the best selection I've found for scarves and whatnot.
Hope that helped a little.
And hope you find just what you need to make you feel beeeeeeautiful!0 -

hello
I ordered my wig through a local beautician,i got real hair cause i liked 2 change colors & highlight it & keep hair looking as normal as possible,I could wear it curly or straighten it,no one ever knew it wasnt mine,my hair has grown back enough 2 wear the spiky look so i dont even wear it anymore, but it helped me feel somewhat better cause pep tend 2 stare or felt bad 4 me & i didnt want that, but anyway enough of me rattling on,I'd be more than hapy 2 give it 2 u or anyone else who wants it,cause ive been there done that, hope all goes well 4=)0 -

Call ACS at 1-800-227-2345. Ask for the ACS office in your town. They will give you one for FREE. And much more, all kind of information and support.
Good luck to you!
Nancy
Actually, that's not true - I couldn't even get ACS to return my calls. When I called the 800 number, I was told there are no programs in my area - even tho I work in the Milwaukee area!!!0 -
WIgs
I went to a woman who specialized in wigs for cancer patients. It cost me a lot, but since I work every day I needed a good one....been wearing it since August and still don't have enough hair to do without it. I was afraid if I bought a cheap one it wouldn't last. I wore hats/scarves around the house, though.
Good luck in finding a nice one. It will make you feel better.
