Hi all - first let me say that I wish that I had found you when I was going thru treatment! I was DX at age 49 with stage II TN3, Oct 2008, had colostomy and tumor removed Nov 2008, chemo Jan 2009 - May 2009, colostomy reversal June 2009. No radiation done and so far, by the grace of God I am cancer free! Now I am experiencing premenopausal symptoms. Is Black Cohosh the best to take? Haven't found anything suggesting
it not good for colorectal cancer thrivers. also bowels are still kinda of weird, trying Mediterranean diet. Any thoughts?
Shanna

    Generic Estroven available
Generic Estroven available at Walmart is great. I used it during menopause and it helped a good bit. Still had night sweats and anxiety but that passed with time.

    Hi Shanna
I went into instant menopause, they had to do a total hysterectomy when had my surgery, the colon tumor had went through and into overy. The oncology nurse told me a lot of women have luck with soy or vitamin E, that they don't do hormone replacement much any more because of strong link to breast cancer. The vitamin E did work very well for me after I had been taking it for about a week. I use milled flax seed fiber for my bowels, you can get it in the baking isle at wallmart or from health food stores. You can put it in food, yogart, salad, bake with it, whatever, I usually just put mine in water and kind of drink/chew it down, it has a good nutty flavor. I also take a stool softener every morning.Hope you get to feeling better.

    Great Ideas!
Thanks for the suggestions. I do put the flax seed in my smoothies but forget to add it to anything else. I will try that. I have tried probotics - when I remember to take them. I will go back to the health food store to find out what is a good amount. I appreciate all your ideas!

My doctor put me on effexor
My doctor put me on effexor xr for help with side effects of menopause! I had surgery in Sept 2008 at the age of 35, so I understand how you are feeling. I still have pretty bad hot flashes, but I think some of it is due to still being in treatments and such. I also take clonodine 0.1mg two times a day as the effexor was not taking care of the day flashes that were happening, I can say that with the combination I feel I have done very well, I only have a couple of really bad hours a day and it is from 7 to 9pm:) My mother who is 63 starts having hot flashes at midnight everynight for two hours so I am going to assume I am about normal now verses all day long:)...
    Best of Luck!

    wow!
Thanks for your suggestion. My mom did not have a hard time going through menopause so I am hoping that I won't either. Just didn't expect it to happen so soon! My hot flashes are mostly at night also but have had a few in the day, and so far there is no rhyme or rythm with it. I was so hoping to have a "normal" year before this started! HA HA HA

My bowels remained weird for a long time. An Integrative Medicine MD suggested I take GI Revive (a supplement) for one month to help heal the mucosal lining. I've been fine since. it's worth a try.
