Its been awhile....

Hi everyone!! Its been a bit thought i would update ya on our crazy life.. Well chris finished his 12 treatment and just before we could even get excited, our 16yr old who has crohns disease was rushed into emergency surgery for 4 hrs with a twisted bowel.. So at 16 she is on her SECOND bowel re-section! 5 days in the hospital and she is home recovering well. As for chris, he met with the surgon on Monday for his reversal. The dr is VERY nervous about doing this and told chris and I about 10 times he could die on the table. He has a very large blood clot in the mail artery in his stomach and he is worried it will break free and kill him.. Chris response ' I would rather die than live with these bags for one more day' so he is scheduled for surgery March 23rd... i am a nervous wreck!!! They said they cant do his PET scan til he is all the way healed from surgery so prob not til the middle of April.. that worrys me a bit. They will biopsy the lesions on his liver while they are in there.. Hope everyone is well and getting nothing but good news!!! I have missed you all

    I do hope you guys have taken the time to get other out-of-area opinions.

    As far as life with the "bags"? Those problems can be resolved.
    I, for six months, had wished I died on the table, rather than endure
    the problems I was having for one more day.... But I found solutions
    to those problems, and am now fairly happy that I'm still here.

    Of course, tax time is coming, and to be truthful, I am reconsidering...

    If you haven't had other opinions, do yourself a favor, and get some.

    Doctors are only humans that make an awful lot of money, and
    they still make as many mistakes as us mortals.

    American Lesions, I'll have to remember that one for my sister who is into the VFW, a similar organization! And I am still putting off filling out my tax forms EGAD!!!!

    You sure are dealing with it!
    I am sorry to hear that not only are you having to deal with the stress of your husband's upcoming take-down surgery and all the possibilities of that, but you are dealing with the very difficult situation with your 16 year old daughter! I pray you have strength reserves around you to get you through each day and each moment, be them a higher power, loved ones, or all of the above! My surgeon being nervous would make me nervous! I agree with others' comments, I would seek another opinion and find a surgeon confident in the procedure and it's outcome! I like John's comment about also being where your husband was, not wanting to go another single day with the bag, but he made it beyond that point and is happy to say it gets better. I think we all have gotten to a point at least once (probably MORE than once) when we thought we just couldn't make it another single day with things as they are. I think these low points are NECESSARY in order for us to rally our strengths and to move beyond those days. You can't appreciate the good without the bad. Once we start climbing out of the valley, we are able to see more clearly the many blessings that surround us, and we can see the many reasons for continuing the fight! My girls and their lives are what I fight for! And reading on this board the many wins our fellow fighters accomplish helps each time! Even the sorrows and the losses help; it helps to know that not EVERYONE is winning ALL the time! The human condition can be tough some times, but knowing there are others out there sharing in our difficulties makes us feel less alone and stronger. I look forward to hearing about your wins, of which I am sure there will be many. Stay strong.

    to my surgeon and other docs, I developed a small blood clot in my right lung during my resection surgery of 07 and was placed on a blood thinner for 13 months. Can they do the same for Chris?

    Hi Mel,
    So sorry to hear about your daughter! Poor girl! There is nothing worse for a parent than to see their child suffer!

    I understand your worry about Chris's upcoming surgery. It sounds scary. Is the surgery something that needs to happen? Although I don't have a colostomy I know that many people are able to adjust to it and enjoy life in spite of it.

    You have some difficult weeks ahead. I hope you are able to find the support and strength you need to cope.
