Lyle's case has been challenging for the doctors. After many consults with the Tumor Board and Mayo...the decision seems to be that with Lyle's other health issues...Taxol will be the best choice. We are wondering if anyone has taken this drug...and how did you do on it?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We weren't sure if he could take something for the diarrhea...so it's good to know you can. We will run that by he doctor, of course, but great to know so that we can prepare. Lyle is so concerned about the side effects keeping him from work. He is getting his picc line tomorrow...and that will be the last thing we need before he can get started. Talk to you soon about our journey...

    Good luck!
Good luck Susie. To you and Lyle.
I'm sure the Dr or nurse will tell you what things you should have on hand in preparation of some side effects. Seems like we were always stopping at the drugstore for something whenever we left the Dr office in the beginning.
Just hang on tight....cause it's quite a ride. But keep the faith.....you can do it!

    Susie,
    My dad is on Taxol

    Susie,

My dad is on Taxol and Carboplatin (carboplatin also doesn't have the kidney side effects like cisplatin) --- once a week for three weeks, then a week off and repeat as deemed necessary.

Currently, his biggest side effect (not sure from which drug)is extreme fatigue (that seemed to really set in on the third week and has continued - he is taking two naps a day, and going to bed early - before chemo he was very active going all the time and stayed up late. Also, he is diabetic and the regime calls for steriods before and after the chemo and that caused his blood sugar to shoot through the roof -that has been managed now. He had some mild naseau but it was manageable. Right now he is super grouchy, irritable and angry --- but that may be more of coping with the idea of having cancer than with the chemo. He hasn't started any radiation yet. I understand the side effects may get worse as he goes on with more rounds of the chemo.

    Best,
    Cindy

    I love the honesty!!
Thank you all for your honesty about your journeys...I feel like the weather person has told us there is a storm coming. No one knows how bad the storm will be so we are covering the windows and stocking up on supplies. Maybe the storm won't hit us as hard as forecasted but it is good to be prepared!!!

    Good information
I had a kidney transplant in 2000, I have EC as well as neck cancer. Two different types of cancer, the oncologiest is considering the Taxol and Carboplatin for me as well. I will start treatment this Monday the 15th. The dicision of chemo has not been finalized and I have done some research on my own, on the Taxol I have not found any negative things about effecting the renal function. But the carboplatin I have found a rare case that it caused end stage renal failure. Keep up the good fight and stay stong.

    Hey Brad
Best wishes for you next week, too! Seems like our journey starts about the same time. With the renal failure...the doctors are only giving Lyle one chemo drug, Taxol. I hope and pray that it is enough to do the job. I hope that your precious gift of your new kidney will be protected through the process. Take care and keep us informed!
