Are you wearing love beads and flowers in your hair?

I thought it was tonight, but it is NEXT Wednesday night~ which seems light years away! I am going to make a tie-dyed T-shirt I think, or look for one at a thrift store. But beads and flowers? Yes! Yes! Yes!

I remember once my bff (who lost her battle with breast cancer about 10 years ago) and I went to this little dance hall and bar in Queens to see the "Female Beatles". They were headlining and the opening act was an unknown group called "Three Dog Night". There were only about 50 people in the whole place and after the show they came down to the bar and hung out with us all evening. It was so nice a year or so later to see them at the top of the charts. So Chen, have fun and enjoy Donovan in such a small venue. I think that is so much nicer than the stadiums!!!0 -

SWEEEEET! I have seen 3 Dog Night about a dozen times, and I love them! They played at the Tribe's Casino here not too long ago, and my niece and I got to go backstage after the show and "catch up" as it were! My niece is almost 25, and I took her to her first 3 Dog Night concert when she was in Kindergarten...and it was also the first date I went on when my then husband and I were dating in Germany in 1972!
My niece told one of the guys a "secret" they had told her when she was 5 years old, and she has been holding the secret for 20 years. They told her that when they sing Joy to The World, All The Boys and Girls, that they were REALLY singing Joy To The World, All The Poisoned Squirrels! They could not believe that they actually divulged that secret to her, or that she held it in for so long! Hilarious!

How was it?

OMG~ it was soooo much fun! A whole room full of "Old Hippies" ( well really, that is kind of redundant, isn't it...?) some even in tie-dyed shirts, and all in great moods!
Donovan came out, looking rather like a softened Arlo Guthrie, and it was just Donovan and his guitar....heavenly! He was gentle, and funny, and would you believe, that he has been married for over 40 years??? How awesome is that for a man who no doubt had a gaggle of groupies at his beck and call "back in the day"? He chatted, and sang, and made us laugh with anecdotes, and sang, and had us sing along with him. He told us not to worry, the songs we knew were coming! :-)
I was surprised to find out that the Native American activist-folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie wrote Universal Soldier, and he both credited and thanked her for that. As a Native American and part of a traditional singing group, my Reggie had a sweet smile on his face upon hearing that!
I was delighted to hear him sing Jennifer Juniper,; shame on me for having forgotten all about that sweet song!
He sang for I think 90 minutes, and was simply gracious and sounded just llike the Donovan I remembered from my teen years! He absolutely still has the vibrato, and can play a mean guitar, and is obviously comfortable in his own skin!
It was said that he would come out to meet and greet, but sadly , it was getting late, and there were more people there than expected, and Reggie and I waited a bit, but he hadn't come out yet, so... :-( we went home!
A nice nostalgic evening to be sure! And this Thursday, in a different music mood, we are going to hear the O'Jays!
