Could it be ovarian cancer?

If anyone can help anwser some of my questions, I would be so appreciative. I have been back and forth to the doctors office for the past couple of years with multiple cysts on my ovaries. For the past month I have been having alot of abdominal pain,nausea,bloating and the feeling of being full all the time. I just had a ultrasound this past Thursday which showed again..multiple cysts. My family doctor sent me a letter in the mail that said he does not think it is cancer but it is referring me to a gynecologist. I have not had any blood work done as of yet. My grandmother died of ovarian cancer several years ago. Can anyone tell me if the symptoms I am having are a sign of possible ovarian cancer.

    You need a CA125 blood test for starters......

    I have a card here from the National Ovarian Cancer Coalitoin, and they list the following as "symptoms of Ovarian Cancer":

    bloating
    pelvic or abdominal pain
    trouble eating or feeling full quickly
    Feeling the need to urinate urgently or often

    Other symptoms can include:

    fatique
    Upset stomach or heartburn
    back pain
    pain during sex
    constipation
    menstrual changes


    If I were you, I'd ask my Dr. for a CA125 blood test as soon as possible. We're all hoping and praying that it is NOT cancer, but if it is, the earlier you find it the better.
    It's great that you are paying attention to your body and the symptoms. I wish I had known the symptoms sooner.

    also look at PCOS
    You should follow your doctor's advice and find a good specialist, but another possibly diagnosis could be PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome. My daughter has it, and she's been told to think of her ovaries as unpopped corn kernels that pop from time to time. Hurts like hekc, but at least she knows what it is. It's an endocrine disorder that is managed with several low-level medications. I think University of Chicago is a leading PCOS research center.

    I absolutely would not waste any time.

    Because of my being ill-informed and diagnosing my symptoms (I assumed that I was going through peri-menopause), I waited too late and am now dealing with stage 4 ovarian cancer.

    If you have the means to have all of the necessary tests performed to determine if you have ovarian cancer or not, pleassse do so. All the symptoms Susan 523 listed are cause for concern. My specific symptoms were "back pain, distended abdomen, heavy bleeding."

    Also my daughter too has poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (which is supposed to not be a cancerous condition), but can exude the same symptoms as ovarian cancer.

    All in all, I am not trying to scare you, but ovarian cancer (particularly in its latest stage)is a scary cancer; so don't take chances with your life okay?

    GOOD ADVICE
    Great advice from everyone. I would also suggest that you see a gynecologic oncologist. They are more 'in tune' to these symptoms and will be more thorough. Thoughts and prayers to you as you search for answers. Stay strong.
