Salt water & baking soda
Mandi, I gargled with salt water & baking soda every night. I started the night before my first chemo and I never had sores nor lost my taste. I got real tired and lazy towards the end of my treatments and wasn't gargling. I got sores & lost my taste buds after my last treatment, so I'm guessing there is a lot of truth to it. Sure hope it works for you because I hated that!

Mandi,
It still just breaks my heart that someone so young as you has to go through this....but your positive spirit definitely inspires me!
I'm a big fan of Biotene mouthwash. My oncologist recommended it, because I've always been prone to canker sores anyway. I used it all the way through chemo, and never got a single mouth sore. I know that salt water and baking soda rinses work, too -- I just HATE the taste of them. Biotene has a very pleasant, mild mint taste, so I never felt like I had to force myself to use it. You can get it at most any drugstore.
Take good care,

dental hygienist
Hi Mandi,
I am a dental hygienist and was a caregiver for my husband for 5 years with colon cancer. He was diagnosed Stage IV and averaged chemo twice a week every other week the first year and then weekly for the next four -my point is this -with all of his issues -never a sore in his mouth. I started him immediately on all the Biotene products and a prescription flouride toothpaste called "Prevident 5000 Booster" made by Colgate. Those are the only products he used and I had believed from my experience they were his best help and for him they worked. I am in shock to be the patient now(diagnosed 2/1), so using the same protocol for me. I still don't know about chemo, so I am in the waiting game still. My lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy were 2/16. My prayers are with you..

MIRACLE MOUTHWASH
Hi
My onocologist gave me a prescription for this and it works great.I took 6 treatments of chemo every 3 weeks and only had to use it about 2 times. I have a very rare BC that chemo and radiation has no effect. I had BC in right breast but had both breast removed in April
2009. AS of today I'm CANCER FREE.
Here's my thought on cancer: The cancer won the 1st battle and I won the 2nd but the
war is not over for I will not give up.
So stay strong.
Best of luck to ya,

Hoping that the next 3 goChrispea said:I didn't get any mouth sores
I didn't get any mouth sores with A/C but I did with taxotere. I usually take some sorbet with me to eat while I get chemo. It helps a bit. I'm going to try the baking soda/salt mouth rinse before I go. I hate not tasting my food!!
Hoping that the next 3 go quickly and easily for you Mandi!
