My mom has gallbladder cancer also
My mom is 66 y/o and was diagnosed last Oct(2009) with gallbladder cancer after routine gallbladder removal due to stones. She was suppose to get liver and bile duct resection but could not due to evidence the cancer had spread to abdomen ports where gallbladder was removed from. This was a huge disappointment to say the least because the best diagnosis was with this surgery. The cancer is still in bile duct and abdomen and we are told this is a very aggressive cancer. She started chemo on Dec. 3rd with Gemzar and Oxaliplatin every 2 weeks.
I am so sorry for you and your mom. This is a terrible disease and our family is still trying to grasp the whole concept. I still sometimes think this is not happening and almost feel frozen with fear and don't know what to do next to help my mom. I don't have any suggestions to help you at this time but I am glad to have some new posts regarding this. I posted back in November but never heard back from anyone. Please keep in contact and maybe we can help each other along the way.

Your Mom's
Dear Babu80 and klnh0126
I'm so sorry to hear about both your Mom's. This is a very difficult disease and it can be very difficult for all. I'm a survivor,4 years out. I was diagnosed at the end of 2005 and spent the first two years fighting it and 2 years recovering from the fight. I too had the liver and bile duct resection but no radiation, was jaundice and my Chemo was alot longer. It took me ten months of going back and forth with the Liver surgeon while getting Chemo until he finally said Ok to the surgery. I never took the answer of no surgery to mean never, just not right now. It gave me a small glimmer of hope to get me through the Chemo. It can be a very aggressive cancer but you can work towards slowing it down. I too had Gemzar and Cisplatin, these can be very toxic to the body.
I can understand the feeling of being frozen and fearful, there just isn't alot of information out there and alot of it is old and out-dated.
I apologize for not responding to earlier posts but the last three months just flew by. I have had an older sister with a cancer diagnosis and I was trying to focus most of my energies on helping her. Again I apologize.
If you would like we can continue to post or if you have specific questions as I tend to be quite chatty we can use the CSN E-mail or Internet E-mail whichever you would prefer.
KLNH0126, I tried to send you a private message but you don't accept them so however you want to talk I will try to check the board more frequently.
I will pray for you mothers.
Take Care

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure why I couldn't accept a private message. I'm not very computer savvy. Do I have to do something to be able to accept them? I would like to e-mail you either way. Do you have a preference?

Hi Karen
Yes, you have to update your profile. Go to My CSN Space, where you orignally set up your profile then from the tab Edit Preferences scroll down to almost the end of the page under Private Message Settings and check the boxes of at least one and two, three is optional. Hope that helps. It is a good system but I tend to be very chatty and so alot of people that I speak with just Email me at LGregg6293@Aol.Com. Just put ACS-CSN in the subject line so if it ends up in Spam and I can add you to my contact list and we can chat. Either way is fine with me. Ask me anything you want.
Take Care.

I am so sorry to read about your mom. She was much too young to die. With all the technology and medical advances in the world I can't help but wonder why does cancer keep winning? We should be further along by now and curing more people. May your mom rest in peace.
