    Questions????
What exactly are you having done to the lobe? It sounds like you have had it done to both, you are talking about the liver aren't you? I am wondering because when talking to my sons doctor today he said that since both lobes of the liver were involved there probably was not much chance of doing surgey on it. We are very new to this whole thing so learnign as we go, which is part of the reason I joined this discussion board. Info, Info I am glad to get any that anyone has.

I had 5 mets on my liver, 3 on the left lobe, one in the middle of the left/right and one on the right. During my liver resection my surgeon removed the entire left lobe and did a wedge resection of the other two. I have heard a number of people say that bilobar mets disqualified him/her from surgery and based on my own experience that seems inaccurate. If your son's doctor is not an oncological surgeon who specializes in liver surgeries, I would most definitely get a second opinion. And, even if he is a liver surgeon a second opinion might be prudent. I went initially to an oncologist who said I would not be a surgical candidate. Apparently he was wrong....

    "Break a Leg" :)
Patti - I hope all goes well with the 2nd half of your procedure. Hospitalization sounds like a good plan to regulate the pain from the procedure. Good to know that help is only a call button away...

So hopeful this procedure will do what you and your doctor want it to do. Look forward to hearing the results...may the force be with you :)

IMCHILS, I am having a procedure called Sir Spheres, it is a liver directed therapy. The put a tiny catheter through the hapatic vein the leg and thread it to the liver, after that they send radiation beads into the catheter, and the go directly into the liver tumors where they stay forever. You can look for Sir Spheres on Youtube and there is a Interventional Radiologist that will explain it in detail. You can only have one lobe done at a time. I had the right lobe done 3 weeks ago and now the left this Thurs. I will have a scan sometime after the second procedure to see how it is working. Patti

good luck Patti!! I had my scope done yesterday and there is some scaring in stomach and one shallow ulcer, but they are not sure that is causing my pain. They did a MRI of my common bile duct and I get results on Thursday. I will be thinking of you.

    This is good to hear
I have wondered if we may have to find another surgeon for the liver and do have a name of someone in a city about 100 miles from here. We meet with Scott's Oncologist tomorrow and I want to ask him what he thinks about the liver as he is the cancer cpecialist not this surgeon so we will see what he has to say. I am living it one day at a time and gatehring all the information I can, any input is so greatly appreciated.

    Hi Patti,

I will pray for the best and will be thinking of you Thursday for all to go well and for you to not have all the pain issues that you had last time. I had talked about Sir spheres w/ my oncologist- he said that our local hospital used to do it, but now he can't have patients get it done there anymore. The hospital said insurance would cover only $6,000 of the $15,000 it cost the hospital. I'm sure if I ever become a candidate for it, that I could get it done elsewhere in San Diego, though.

How exciting to get those tumors "blasted"!

    Hugs to you,
    Lisa
