Hello all,
Some of you are probably thinking I am on the wrong discussion board... I am an oldie here as a caregiver for my husband who recently passed away on 9/25/09 and now newly diagnosed myself with breast cancer. When I posted 2 weeks ago, I was overwhelmed and touched by all of your words of encouragement, faith, and support for me. I am in a new place and trying to find how I fit in my new world and grieving for the loss of my husband all at the same time.

My surgery went more smoothly than I could have imagined. Everyone was so kind and compassionate. I had the lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy done. There were 3 nodes removed. I was fortunate to not need any drains..I know that was a blessing. Now, I wait for the pathology reports to see what is next. I feel as though I am doing so well and so grateful for completing the first step. And then I get this sudden wave of that "unknown" and I know I just need to hold on to my faith and regain my "footing".

I woke very early this morning and have been trying to turn off my "thinking" and appreciate all of you listening to me.
Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers,
Mary Kay

    Hi Mary Kay,

Thank you for updating us. I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. I can't imagine how hard it must be to deal with thoughts of waking up from surgery and wishing your husband were there. You sound like you are of very strong character and faith. You will be okay- just keep on surrounding yourself with people who care for you, and you will get through it.

    A big cyberhug to you~

    Hi Mary Kay
It seems so common for close loved ones of a cancer patient to develop cancer themselves some time during the heavy stresses of treatment. I'm so sorry this happened to you, but thankful the surgery went well. I pray that your margins are clear, and that there is no spread. Please let us know!

    Hugs,
    Krista
