So Sorry
I am so sorry for your recurrence. I have spoken to a woman at the cancer center I go to who had a recurrence in her ribs. She was undergoing radiation for it. Talk to your medical team regarding the best course of action.
As for your family.....I can see how it may be hard to tell them but I think you should. You are going to need their help, support, and love.
Take care and know that we are with you.

bone metatsis
I have stage 1V with metatsis to my bones, apparently went to the bones before I was even
diagnosed. It has involved my back, and I had 10 treatments of radiation to relieve the pain i was having. I have to say it did help the lower back pain. I am now taking monthly
bone infusions of pamidronate which is to help build the bone back up. I use a walker as
I can't put any pressure on my back, as it is weak. Has anyone taken this drug and does it help. I would like some good news. I hope you find relief from your back pain.
I think your family needs to be involved in knowing what you are going through, if they support you, as we all need someone to be their for us.0 -

There are promising treatments and we have several members who are doing well. Definitely need to tell your family and friends. You need a lot of support and empathy.

I have!!!!!
I am going thru that right now and it hurts. I started off with breast and it went to the bone. I'm undergoing acupuncture right now because i'm trying to do anything to get rid of the pain. I dont take meds so it's extra hard on me. I know what your going thru trust me and it sucks. I'm in a scooter all the time because i cant walk, well i can walk but it hurts like hell. I'm gonna beat this because im not gonna spend the rest of my life in this damn scooter or in pain. I'm going on a cruise in may and it's my goal to be able to do a little something by then.
Stay strong and god bless you.0 -

I'm currently doing chemo now but i did do rads and it helped ALOT back then. I havent done it for the pain in about 5 months and thats because when i did it the pain went away. I need to tell my dr whats going on as far as the pain so we can hopefully do it again. I dont think they can keep radiating you like that all the time, i'll find out for sure. I also do monthly bone infusions to strenghten the bone. My whole body doesnt hurt just my left leg, thank god.0 -

Yes, I have bone mets
and am doing weekly chemo treatments of Taxol with monthly treatments of Zometa. I no longer have any back pain from the cancer, just the achiness from the Taxol. I know my onc has mentioned radiation if the pain gets bad, but so far no real pain in my back. I did have some pain this week on the left side of my chest, but my coughing has subsided a lot, so the pain has subsided too. I have more tests this week to see where my numbers are. I know the mets are fairly common, and have been told it is very treatable. I also know it sucks to think you're done and then have to start again. I'm really sorry you have to deal with this. This board is so tremendously helpful, though, it gives you hope. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. You are in my prayers and I am sending you a cyber hug.

I haven't received pamidronate but, I have given it. The lady I gave it to did great, no side effects, no fractures or bone weakness. She was receiving it the entire 9 years I worked there!

so sorry
I'm so sorry you are in pain. My mom had radiation for mets to her neck and ribs. It helped the pain tremendously! Here's praying it will for you! I don't know your history with family and friends when you were 1st diagnosed but, if it was good let them know. I suspect they would be hurt if you didn't include them in your struggle.
Gentle hugs, El0 -
Do Not Make The Mistake That I Did
My recurrence came back as invasive carcinoma. A recurrence, however, is a recurrence. Makes no difference how it came back. We all react the same...how is that possible.
I did have 31 treatments of radiation but geared to the skin of my breast.
As far as telling your family and friends do not make the same mistake that I did. When the recurrence came back for me I initially told a few people who ended up having a negative reaction. I think they were stunned and did not know how to respond. Consequently, I did not tell most of my friends about the recurrence.
I waited one day from getting the news before I told my husband and married children. All of them were supportive. I also told 3 other friends who also were very supportive.
What happened was that the majority of my friends that I did not tell, ended up finding out from the few who knew. I just wrote an e-mail - 4 months later - to all the other friends telling them that I knew some of them knew I had cancer and that I was now strong to deal with any negativity that I might encounter regarding the reaction to my cancer. The bottom line was that those friends felt I had deprived myself of their support in those first 4 months. They walked on eggs not knowing what to do, what to say. In addition, they were worried about me. They were very happy when I announced to them that I had cancer. However, one friend responded that I had denied them their help and support in those 4 months. I was surprised at this statement. I guess they were right. I cheated myself those 4 months.
Get all the support you can, especially with this recurrence. Tell you family and tell your friends.
Lots of Hugs and Lots of Love,

Hmmm...i thought i responded to this, but i sometimes have a problem posting. I have bone mets, there are a few of this who do. I was diagnosed on July 7, 2008 with breast cancer, the bone mets were there then. I get monthly drug infusions of Zometa, my last scan was stable with no activity. Good news, i guess since this will always be there. Lately, i have been having back pain but doctor said it is not from the mets. I only told my hubby that it spread and a couple other people. I did not announce to my extended family that the cancer had spread since they were not there to support me when i announced that i had breast cancer.0 -

It is a tough call. From my experience I would say no, however some workplaces are very supportive. If you work for big organization I still believe you should keep your diagnosis privet.
Your husband and your children are completely different story,
Please keep posting, we are here to support you.
