shrinkage
saw palmetto will shrink the prostate and is found in over the counter prostate health meds and will take a while to take effect- there are prescription pills that are stronger and act quicker that your doctor will be familiar with other than the "hormone shots" jm0 -

Green light lazer, but I don't think that's the answer for you.
Bummer...
Another idea for you to think on is capsacian.
Personally I'd quit eatting meat, I go to lectures on cancer every year and MD Andersen keeps saying that they think red meat causes cancer, maybe it's the hormones in meat. Hormones in chicken too...buy organic. Pork doesn't have any, neither does lamb.0 -

ralphie's wife,
I have a friend who was diagnosed with Pca and he is trying to get into the trials also, here is his answer to your question:
"I went to my VA urologist today and he said my prostate size felt to be in the 30s cc range. That was his judgment from a digital exam, which is pretty subjective compared to the 48cc, measured via ultrasonic imaging 6 months ago.
My PSA dropped from 5.7 to 3.07.
For several weeks I've been taking PectaSol C + Diindolylmethane (DIM). So maybe the supplementation is helping."
This guy is the king of supplements, he knows what to take for everything.0 -

The pomegrante study was
Hi,
The pomegrante study was funded by the owners of POM, pomegranate juice. They gave USC 25 million dollars and asked them to prove that promegrant juice will help prostate cancer. So, I have a hard time really believing this study, all foods with anti-oxidents are going to show they are good for you and help with cancer.0 -

Diindolylmethane (DIM) (1 smidgeon powder, thrice daily)
Genistein (1/2 tsp daily)
Ibuprofen (2 pills/day)

He said he'd taken that stuff for "several weeks" prior to his PSA test, so yes, I think you can, being all you really need to do is stabilize his size. It's amazing how much his size went down and his PSA. If Ralphie's goes down the same ~ you may be on to something great! He doesn't mind being the second lab rat ~ does he? (:
Hopefully the stuff arrives tomorrow!! This friend of mine who gave the receipe is a guy who loves to help people, it's all he does, he cured his own diabetes, and has helped so many others with all kinds of things, too bad it doesn't pay! But he doesn't care, he loves to help, he's a dear.
I am happy to be helping as well! Happy anniversary week! How many years? We've been married 29!
Good luck...fingers tightly crossed!0 -

Finasteride is a synthetic antiandrogen that acts by inhibiting type II 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, and is a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia0 -

Mautzu,
Good post. I believe Avodart also works in a similar way to Finasteride.0 -
Why Shrink a 40 cc Prostate?mrspjd said:good info
Mautzu,
Good post. I believe Avodart also works in a similar way to Finasteride.
Going back to the original post, I'm wondering what treatment was being considered for shrinking a 40cc prostate? That is not an enlarged prostate at all and well within the "normal to small" range for a man in his 50s.
A physical way to shrink an enlarged prostate is the TURP (transuretheral resection of the prostate), usually used to treat BPH.0 -

I don't believe that a TURP actually, physically, shrinks the prostate size in the same way that Finasteride or Avodart does (if I'm wrong here, I'm sure I'll be corrected). A TURP is like a roto-rooter procedure (sorry for the analogy) to "ream" out so that the urethra is relieved from the swelling and pressure caused by the effects of BPH. If the process is successful, it should unblock & restore urine flow.0
