Trying to get Dr. Oz to do piece on EC
I wrote an email several weeks ago, asking the Dr. Oz show if they could possibly do a show on EC since we have so many people find out in the later stages that they have this terrible disease. I mentioned I did not want to be on the show just thought that he does so many public service shows where he tries to make people aware of different diseases that they may never have thought of, that maybe he could do one on EC. So far have not heard a peep. Just wondering if anyone else would like to send a message to Dr. Oz.com, they have a special email place where if you have an idea for the show or want to be on it you write there. I am thinking of all the young ones here on this board with little children at home and older ones like myself that want a better retirement that this. Just wanted to put this out there and hoping he will do one on it. Think he has mentioned other cancers that are even more rare than ours. Anything to make people aware that heartburn and indigestion are not always what they seem. take care, prayers for all.

I do remember
seeing a show in the summer, I dont know if it was on the Dr's or Dr. Oz. They explained the signs and said that it could lead to EC so please get scopes reg. I know when My husband and I watched it, I quickly told my dad he should go for a scope. It was nearly 3 months later he got one done it was already at stage 3. But I do agree they need to get the word out, even if its phone calls like the they do for heart cancer.0 -
Dr. Oz
Checkout the Esophageal Cancer Action Network, http://ecan.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=Home. There is a video from the Dr. Oz show about Barrett's Esophagus and acid reflux. That may be why you haven't heard from the show. Wish I had seen before my husband's Barrett's turned into cancer.

Dr Oz
I am not familiar with Dr. Oz show. I did read that Dianne Sawyer had a segment on GMA concerning symptoms and awareness. I was simply amazed that with the problems that my husband has had over the years with acid reflux that no doctor ever considered checking this out. He has lived for years with a bottle of Rolaids in his pocket or in his hand as he sleeps. He has used every possible medication available over the counter and prescription. I had esophageal ulcers several years ago but it was readily cured with protonix and I have not had any problems since; however, my doctor was relentless with pursuing my problem. I am learning quickly that this cancer is not as rare as believed to be.
Thanks to all for the information as we travel this pathway.

Jane
Hi Jane,
Not familiar with that but will check it out. Thanks to Jane and all who responded. I live in Maryland and it seems when I am at the cancer center the dr is doing EC surgery nearly every week. We have a lot of cancer in our state and oddly it seems to follow close to our Bay, which is strange. I live about a mile from a river that feeds into the bay. Just want the more people to know, lung cancer is also an orphan disease because people are so quick to blame the victim for smoking but now there is a definite uptick in nonsmokers esp women getting this. Nurses would come to my room to see me because I have squamous which is mostly hard drinking/smoking men and be surprised that I had it. take care, I spread the word to anyone who will listen, if you know someone taking Tums all the time and complaining of Gerd or indigestion get them checked out. take care, prayers for all,
