Cat Scan Results and Now the countdown to Liver Resection

edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
I had a CAT scan on tuesday - I wanted one done in chicago JUST in case any blips before going to Sloan Kettering in March.

Onc called me so happy to report no new cancer and some further shrinkage of tumors. CEA at 2.5. I have one more chemo then a 4 week break until the big surgery on St. Paddy's Day. (my last name is Luckey, can I b more Irish?????)

So, now I need to enjoy the next month, get things in order, perhaps move around the pile of medical bills (ha-ha) so they appear "dealt with"

I don't want to "ruin" the good things that are unfolding for me by worrying, over-analyzing, or thinking one negative thought....

One of my chemo nurses looked at me last week and told me how she recalls how very very sick i was all summer..."you were just a speck, ready to fall over, barley able to walk. Now look at you, you have a butt, you have energy, there is light in your eyes and you are having the most important surgery of your life" I just cried. the chemo ward is so busy, non-stop, I didn't think the nurses "noticed" anyone anymore.

I know I am a mircacle in the making....I don't want to screw up and let all my friends and family and prayer warriors down, KWIM???

god, cancer paranoia is the worst

thanks for listening

    Fantastic News
    Peggy,

I am so excited for your results and your upcoming surgery. You will not be disappointed with the surgical team at MSK. The hospital was great too. They have "room service" where you can order off a menu at any time of the day. The food really isn't bad. When I had my 3 c-sections and was in hospitals the food was always horrible and you always had to order it the day before and it always came at a certain time. At Memorial you can have lunch at 10:00 am or 1:00 or 3:00, you name it. So cool.

They do have wireless so bring a laptop.

I will be at Sloan on 3/22. If you happen (not likely but maybe) to be at the outpatient facility at 53rd Street, let me know. Or perhaps you wouldn't mind me visiting you at Memorial but I understand that you may not feel up to it.

In either case, sending thought to you and may the luck of the Irish be with you!!

    Liver Resection
    Good News
I had a liver resection in October of 2008 the day after Thanksgiving and things worked out as the doctor had planned. You should talk to your doctor about a portal vein embolization prior to your surgery.Basically they plug one of the veins going to one side of the liver and this pumps more blood into the side of the liver to be saved. This is not a big procedure but for me worked great to enlarge the the lobe of the liver to be saved.I then went on to remove the primary tumor in May of 2009 with the last CEA coming in at .5{I had a CEA marker of 780 prior to chemo].

    ok then!
I will put it on my calendar to come visit you at Memorial Hospital (probably 3/22). I know your surgery is being performed by Dr Fong. My liver surgeon was Dr D'Angelica. If you hear his name (D'Angelica) mentioned on the floor while they do rounds look for him...he's quite the looker.. :)

May the luck of the Irish go with you my dear!

I love your attitude. I don't know which one you are in the photo, but since your very first post on this board, I've envisioned you with a big smile on your face.

I'm a prayer warrior and will be calling you by name in my prayers.
