sore throat
George never complained of the sore throat but his voice definitely changed while on chemo, sounded hoarse, like he had something in this throat, like when you have a cold, and kept trying to clear it. I really noted the change but he really did not complain of pain. Take care - Tina0 -
Hi
I wouldn't exactly say
Hi
I wouldn't exactly say throat- but definitely mouth. No sores in the inside of my mouth- but the gums and inside the cheeks were sore. Like things that were crusty would hurt to eat. I also had a funky feeling in my throat- like I had a pill stuck there. So I would drink a glass of water and no relief.
The cycle for this- it got worse with each treatment- and by the time I realized how much of a problem it was, went to see my oncologist and was admitted directly into the hospital. My mouth, throat and tongue so swollen they couldn't get my teeth apart to look in the mouth and I couldn't speak. They were afraid my throat would close off. Looking back, I should have been taking preventative measures long before I did, but I had no idea it was from the chemo. And by preventative- gargling frequently with a combination of salt and baking soda and getting a script for "magic mouthwash".
This ended up being the beginning of the end of oxi for me. My thought for you is to tell your oncologist before tx on Monday and start the gargling and magic mouthwash routine ASAP0 -
What regimine are you on? I
What regimin are you on? I always have a sore throat with my treatments. I believe my onc said its from the 5FU. I also have terrible mouth sores and can't eat anything that resembles spicy or my tongue will burn like the dickens!! The sore throat usually only lasts for one day...two at the most.

I am on Folfox (Oxilaplatin, 5FU, Calcium/Magnesium) 12 treatments over 6 months.
Thanks, I will be speaking with my Oncologist. My hands are swollen as well and I told him last week when I developed a rash that i needed to be reassessed for the dosage of the Oxi...
All that I've experienced has been bearable so I am being vigilent so that my body can continue to fight the good fight with this chemo drug. The mass was removed so I just gotta walk through this drug process and slay this giant!!!! I appreciate you all helping me to do that. We are helpers to one another0 -

Yes, I finished treatments in Jan 09. One of the onc nurses told me that even lukewarm tap water was probably too cold and encouraged me to go to HOT water- which actually tastes nasty, lol. But it took away that stuck feeling- one of my favorite treats was an ensure in a coffee mug, sprinkle of cinnamon on the top, then miked. I actually did an assortment of liquids- concentrated lemons- honey and ginger- then would add a teaspoon or two to hot water, that seemed to help.0 -

WOW! THANKS FOR REMINDING ME TO DO THE MOUTHWASH RINSE!!!!!!! I rinsed after I got off the board and then again before bed and this morning the sore throat is gone....
Another lesson for me: Sometimes we have everything we need but it takes someone else to remind us to use what we have to get to where we need to be. (I am learning so much through this journey) When I am finished with this, my life is gonna be AWESOME!!!
Thanks again!!!!!
Now I'm going to write down the liquid drinks for my next treatment. I am going to believe that my 5th treatment will be like none other, that I will not experience all the negative side effects!!!! My hair is thicker and growing, my nails are strong and longer than they've ever been so I know that it is possible to bypass the swollen fingers that I've experienced and pain in the hands. (they feel soooo much better this morning)...
