Hi girls, haven't been on in awhile. I see there are several new people I hate that. I am curious if anyone here has been on Armidex? It is a breast cancer med but my doctor feels he has ran out of options (think its time to look for 2nd opinion on that). My mother googled Armidex and found alot of harse side effects so I thought I would see if anyone here knew first hand.

    Hi Jan,

    No, I haven't been on that one yet. I'm suppose to be starting Alimpta soon. It has been used for lung cancer, and they have used it and had some success with ovarian cancer, my doctor tells me. And, I've read that it was just recently approved for ovarian cancer. My doctor said that the side affects are that it is very rough on your blood counts, but it seems that most of them are. This particular drug is suppose to interfer with the DNA of the tumor. Let us know if you get more information on the drug. It seems that lately there are several of us on the board that need to be looking at 2nd line drugs too. I've missed your posts too! Love and hugs, MM

    You might try searching using the term Arimidex in the search box on both the breast cancer board and the colorectal cancer board. Just log in and then place the term in the search box. Be sure you have spelled it correctly.

    Hey Jan, I well reply to your email too.. but glad you posted here as others may be of more help with this drug. About ARIMIDEX ~ it is used inwomen with hormone receptor-positive cancer. I think Saundra, groundeffect and a few others have been on a different brand of this type of treatment and had good results. My doc has mentioned tamoxifen, but he usually gives it when we are out of options..at least for those of us who have been fighting for a long time. They do have a fair amount of side affects but so does each of the chemos we have been on. Have you done the avastin yet? How about the drug MM was mentioning? I have not heard of it yet, partially because the ovarian listserv quit sending me emails.

    Does your doc have a team of docs he consults with? That can help sometimes, how about the abraxane or navelbine. I have a friend who was up to 8000 for her ca125 and with the combination of abraxane and navelbine she is now 800 ~ it is harsh though and she does feel well most of the time. Her cancer is in the bones too.

    Hi Jan,

    I didn't have Arimidex, but I had Femara, which is the same type of oral chemo drug for hormone receptive cancer. The side effects weren't bad for me; probably the worst was the pain I had in my fingers, hands, and wrist. I took it for 7 months, but it didn't help me. My cancer came back.

    My friend was on Arimidex, and she quit taking it because she had so many bad side effects. If you do a search on Arimidex side effects, you'll find message boards where women who are taking this drug really feel bad most of the time. Of course, maybe the ladies who don't feel bad aren't posting as often. But the search engine will tell you what the effects are and how many people percentage-wise have them.

    I'm not going to be, lol. I have applied for disability so you may get tired of seeing my name. Hope things are going well with you. I will be busy pretty soon as I am about to have my first grandchild. I am so excited and still can't believe I am going to be blessed with a little granddaughter in less than a month.

    I took Femara, for 10 months and it slowed the growth of my cancer cells and gave me a break from chemo. It is an anti estrogen and the only side effects i had were lots of hot flashes and flushes. Saundra
