How to celebrate my LAST chemo!!!
Anyhoo, Does anyone have any ideas how to celebrate with the nurses and docs who have been so kind and positive with me throughout this ordeal?
flowers? Cookies? ect...

My last of 6 will be on Thursday... woo hoo! I was thinking of baking brownies, but after seeing Sher's response, maybe a fruit basket would be nicer. Hmmm... I will be watching this post to see what kind of replies you get.

I'll be watching this post too. I only have 2 more herceptin infusions ... and wanted to do something special for all of the folks who have been there for me these past months. I see lots of angels around the room (obviously gifts from patients)and plants ... and I've seen people bring in cookies ... but I've been wondering if there wasn't something else I could do.
Can't wait to hear the suggestions.

I think that fruit instead of treats is a good idea but it would be even nicer and easier for them to consume if you did a fruit tray with grapes, orange slices, melons, berries, bananas etc. with some toothpicks in a cup so they can grab and go. You can even add apples slices. I keep those sliced in a plastic bag until the last minute to keep them from turning brown. I personally took in cookies each week and fancier baked goods on my last day. The last time I did radiation it was completed just before Easter so I did an Easter basket with typical easter treats. I also did one for my oncology office. February is valentine month so maybe something with a valentine theme. Heart shaped cake with a cute conversation heart type message on top like "U R Rad" or "You're the Best" "U R Great" "U Make Me Glow". You get the idea. My sister did a big jar, put pink ribbon stickers on it and filled it with jelly bellys (the factory is in our town) in all pink flavors (bubblegum, cotton candy, and others) but other candy could be used. As far as sweets vs. healthy stuff, I went with treats. All the techs and my doctor were slim people so I think they were weight saavy. They were always walking and moving so I felt okay with giving them not so healthy stuff. Just some ideas.

How about a little sweet with the fruit. Chocolate covered strawberries, pink almond bark covered pretzels. Do you bake? My sister makes these cute little cake pops ... you could probably make them in the shape of hearts. Check out this link: bakerella.com0 -

congratulations Lorraine so excited for you!!!!!! I brought in a large cake from a very nice bakery. said" thank you you are the best." I wanted to have a large one to include the CA's, and volunteers and docs. they said it tastd great. I did not want a piece I have an aversion to sweets.0 -

I didn't do anything for my chemo team...I guess I didn't think of it, now I feel bad! But I did purchase small Christmas gifts for my rad team (Bath and Body soaps with a ornament around it.) They actually game me a cake!0 -

I'm so glad to hear that you almost done with your chemo!! I'm glad you brough this topic up. I'm doing rads and you reminded me that I want to do something special for the staff at the end of my treatment.
I've loved all of the suggestions!! I'm not sure where you are but if you're interested in something more "healthy" you might consider "Edible Arrangements" These are beautiful fruit "bouquets" (sp? bo-kays). I must warn you though, they are pricey.0 -

Hmmm, what to do?
When I am finished, I want to do something I have always wanted to do like go a short cruise, swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Cove, etc. If I do not have the funds available for that, then I think I will buy myself a little gift like jewelry or a massage or go some place fancy for dinner.
Whatever you decide, enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

I think I've decided on baking brownies. I have my treatments done in the hospital and, although they are all nice ladies, I don't feel I got any kind of real special treatment... ya know? So, I'll read what you did, but I will most likely stick to brownies (or they will stick to me, which seems to be a problem lately, lol).

I didn't give food to the staff, I gave them all of my anti-nausea meds and medical supplies that I wouldn't need anymore for the picc line. They have a lot of patients who can't afford supplies and I thought they would help some that way.
Anything you do for them would be nice.

I think the valentine's were such a lovely idea. I love art from children and the phrases are sure to be uplifting to other patients. What a great idea. And carrot cake is a great idea also. Glad you are done with your treatment also.

I figure the worst is over, agreed? I'll find out in a few weeks...
I plan on bringing my leftover meds in, too. That's a great idea! I guess I'll keep a few around, just in case I get sick from the rads, but I'm not expecting it.

i LOVE you new picture!!!! So appropriate for the end of chemo! Congratulations and best of luck as you move on to rads. It's easier than chemo in that you don't have all those nasty side effects but it's a pain in that you have to go every day for weeks. The positive is that it's killing the stray cancer cells.
