Had my surgery on Tuesday of this week. Had mastcetomy with flap reconstruction. I have drains and I am doing very well. I spent two night in the hospital. I am still a little groggy from the meds, but am so blessed to not have to take the pain meds at home. I am taking Advil and one fro pain at night. I took a shower by myself last night and it felt soooo good. I tied a lenght of ace bandage around my waist and attached the drains to the ace wrap. When I finished the shower I dressed myself from the top fist, attached the drains to the bra, then I could remove the wet ace bandage and put my bottoms on. Hope this helps someone and God bless all of you!!

Glad to hear you're doing so
Glad to hear you're doing so well. And thanks for letting us know how we can shower afterwards with the drains and all. My masectomy is scheduled later in Feb. so I know I'll need all the help I can get. Take care, rest and hope you heal quickly.

My first shower was the day
My first shower was the day after surgery. They told me not to shower yet but I just had to. I used a lawn & leaf bag and cut my head out tied it under my boobs and went for it. Looked crazy, but did the trick.

My first shower came 8 days after surgery .. Luckly, I have a
hand held shower head - so my husband would pull down the shower head and I would address certain areas of my body daily without getting my newly reconstructed boob's wet. Funny sight, now that I think back on it .... just a week ago. My drains hurt when left dangling ...

    Kat11 .. You are a scream!!

    it's the little things
I didn't take a shower for 10 days. While I was in the hospital one of the tech's dropped one of my drains...wasn't pretty and scared the hell out of me, so I waited till they were all out. I'm very close to all my neighbors and some were even my caretakers. After that first shower I was on top of the world...I opened my back door and yelled at the top of my lungs " I took a shower..I took a shower "...there were many laughs coming from everywhere..some even applauded. You really do appreciate the little things when you're going thru this.

    Thanks for sharing
What a great Idea! I used elastic hair ties around my wrist then attatched the drains to these ties. I had trouble lifting my arms higher than my shoulders so my husband jumped in the shower with me and washed my hair. The 1st shower after surgery was WONDERFUL. Glad to know you are doing well.
