Hi everybody

Just wanted to you to know, I made it through the surgery Friday, and the primary was found
(right tonsil) and I am doing pretty good. OTO said a very successful surgery!! Praise God!!
Thanks to everyone for all the prayers.

    Congratulations Steve!!! It sounds like you will be out fishing again soon :-) It's always nice to read good news on this site and hear that someone else is doing so great.

    They suspect my occult was on the right side. Are there studies on this?

    Good to hear you know where the primary is/was.

    Wow - I'm sort of in the right tonsil club - no cancer there, but it was taken out when they did my biopsies (tonsil was "under stress" from tumor).

    Keep it up with the good news.

    When I had my exploratory
    When I had my exploratory before treatment I expected to lose both tonsils but was able to keep them. My first PET showed uptake in the right tonsil but they thought it was due to inflamation from rads. Ever since I have been wondering if it would not have been better for the Doc to just take the tonsils like he had planned in the beginning. I'll find out next PET I guess.

    Hey Mike and everybody,

    I do not know yet what I will go through with the rad and the chemo, but the tonsil thing at age 52, I gotta tell ya, I would not wish on my worst enemy. I do know from everyone's posts that there will be major throat issues. Right now, its like there is a paste in my mouth that only subsides after I take my Hydrocodone(liquid) for about an hour. It was a major accomplishment for me to eat a bowl of cereal this morning. Just can't seem to get my stomach quite right yet. But today has been a pretty good day all in all. Feels like I have a tapestry sewn to my neck which is kinda weird but the oto did what I think was a really good job on me.Thanks to all for your posts and prayers!!!

    I Feel Your Pain
    Hi Steve, I can so relate to what you're saying about having your tonsils removed. I had a radical left neck dissection in 2003 and my tonsils were removed at that time as a precautionary measure (primary source of cancer was on left tongue; spot removed via surgery in 2001). I bounced back from the neck dissection just fine but OMG, I was in pain for 3 weeks from the tonsillectomy. I lived on warm won ton soup (minus the won tons) and Frosty's from Wendy's for almost a month following surgery.

    Hang in there; it will get better.

    I'll be following along. Kind of hoping to be a member of the right tonsil club myself, after removal of a right lymph node (mets SCC). Hopefully I'll have more news soon on where my primary is hiding. Sounds like a number of us will be embarking on radiation and/or chemo at about the same time.

    D Lewis and Steve- I'm NPC, not tonsil, but the experiences of all head and neck treatments are somewhat similar. The road ahead is a good road, because it leads to a good place, but it does have it's bumps. Please keep us informed on how you are doing, and especially any concerns we may be able to help and advise you with. Yeah, you will feel those bumps, but we are here to help- and make sure your Drs. are doing right by you, in our opinions. We are survivors- as you are becoming. You will get past this little setback in your lives, and we all are with you.

    Believe.

    I am new to this site. I have just been dianosied with a cancer lump on the back of my neck. I have a PET scan on Thursday. I have been so afraid and someone told me I should join a survivors site for some help.

    I just now saw your post here that your primary was your tonsil. I had my tonsils out as a child. The doctor had put a tube down my nose and said she couldnt find anything there at all. So far all I have is 1 lump on the back of the left side of my neck.
