I have not posted much lately but have been keeping up. Frank has been going weekly to Vanderbilt for a Phase 1 clinical trial...D-1MT was the name of the medication. It was to build up immune system to fight off the cancer. We went Sunday to Vandy to have a CT scan to see how the trial was doing. Frank has gained weight, feeling better and looking great. We met with the oncologist on Monday and got the news. Frank was removed from the clinical trial. The CT scan showed that the cancer which is now in both lungs has continued to grow at the same rate of speed as before starting the clinical trial. The D-1MT had no effect on the cancers so he was removed. Clinical trials are his last hope. They say maybe a year...but we know only GOD knows!! They sent him home for 4 weeks to let the chemicals get out of his body and then we go back Feb 15 for labs and another appt with oncologist. In the mean time, Dr will look for another Phase 1 clinical trial that might help slow down or stop the cancers. We appreciate each of you and the encouragement we get from your posts, attitude, and hope. Please remember him in your prayers. We are a little down but we know we are so very blessed and are thankful for each day GOD gives us. Fighting on!!

So Sorry
Anna,
so sorry this trial didn't work for you. My husband was recently dx w/stage IV colon. We are about 100 miles from Vandy and may be there some day, but for now starting closer to home.
Don't ever give up!!!!

Oh No

My heart sank when I read your post
I'm so sorry that this did not work for Frank, but hoping the next news will not be as bad. It has been such a difficult start for 2010 with all of our friends so sick and struggling for good results - it's very hard to hear of these, but as a family we band together for the Tears as well as the Smiles.
I still remember you telling me how good Frank was feeling driving to Vandy with the Christmas CD belting out those songs - it was for reasons like that, that I made them for everybody.
I want so much for things to turn around - and Frank and YOU will both be in my prayers.
Thank you so much!

Don't give up
Hi Anna,
I am in the same situation. My first clinical trial with AMGEN 655 and AMGEN 479 failed. I wait for a while and now I am on my second trial with Sorafenib, Erbitux and Irinotecan. Each cycle is 5 weeks. I will have CT at the sixth week to see how it goes. If Frank is qualified for another clinical tial, he will need to wait a leat 4 weeks beofore they can start the next one. So hang in there don't give up.

Sorry
So sorry that things aren't going better for him. Sounds good though that he has continued to feel better and gain some weight. Hopefully he can go on a new trial after a month.
