The Reading Room: Is ‘electrosmog’ harming our health?
"..."That's when I sat down with another teacher, and we remarked on all the cancers we'd seen," she says. "We immediately thought of a dozen colleagues who had either gotten sick or passed away."
By 2005, 16 staffers among the 137 who'd worked at the new school had been diagnosed with 18 cancers, a ratio nearly 3 times the expected number. Nor were the children spared: About a dozen cancers have been detected so far among former students. A couple of them have died..."
Interesting read, here is the Cancer Article.

No Doubt
It's probably more than possible - just going to take time for the numbers to begin to add up. With society totally dialed out to person to person contact, cells phones and wi-fi are of course all the rage.
Just look at any doctor's office waiting room, or elevator, or standing outside, or driving a car - it's just rampant and sadly we are really mostly talking about nothing.
It reminds me of that ol' Griswold movie: "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" where Clark walks into his boss' office and the guy gets nervous and says:
"Get me Somebody - ANYBODY!"
Ever notice now how "nervous" people get next to someone now - they just go crazy and just reach for their phone to talk, text, or play games - people are out and technology is in.
Of course, we'll have to wait for the current group of "guinea pigs" to gather all of the new data that someday will be reported. By that time, I'm sure it will be an epidemic.
Very interesting, Phil...stay tuned...I'll text you

Radio waves are passing though most of us all the time. How could it not affect us!0 -
All these Radio Waves
and nothing good to listen to...
The article is a bit long but it talked about how the energy efficient bulbs and appliances actually help to make the situation worse. So on the one hand we are saving energy but at the same time we are causing more sickness. Not good. In this one school where a large number of teachers were getting sick, shortly after they installed filters on the power the symptoms went away. Interesting stuff. How can all of this NOT affect us?

High Voltage Power lines
During my husbands college days they did a study about those big High Voltage Power lines and noted that those who lived very close to them had increased incidence of developing leucemia and other cancers. That was way back in the 80's (dude), they were even concerned then about all the electical stuff then. BTW we don't live under those power lines.
Why can't they figure all this out? I'm about ready to be a ruralapolitan. Get me some land and live by candle light, woops can't do that, have an online business, how would I communicate? I guess I am doomed!!!

Also, we use the little florecent light bulbs, but I think my husband said they use mercury in them-now we know that is not good for anyone. (I'll ask him for sure about this)0 -

I think they already figured it out and KNOW exactly what is going on. The cell phone industry is a multi billion dollar one as are the electric companies. Do you think they want studies like this to come out that could potentially harm their bottom line ($$$)? I don't think so either.
I bought a bunch of the little energy efficent florecent bulbs. Many of them didn't last as long as a regular bulb and yes, they do contain mercury and they have to be disposed of properly. We did have one in ours son's room over by his bed. We got rid of that one pronto!
I would never live anywhere near power line either.

Cell Phone Radiation
Thanks for posting this, Phil.
Pretty scary. We are all exposed to so many dangers. It is pretty difficult to monitor everything, but fortunately, with the Internet, it is becoming easier to do some responsible research and to make safe(r) decisions for our families and ourselves.
I just purchased new cell phones (I washed mine. Not a good thing.) and tried to discuss the various radiation rankings of the cell phones our company (Verizon) offered with the clerks at the Verizon store. It was a pretty dismal discussion, I'm sorry to say. They knew almost nothing about the issue (or professed to know nothing).
Here is a link to an article about cell phones and radiation and a list of the rankings of various models of cell phones.

P.S. It is good to see an increasing number of posts on The Reading Room thread. I think we can help each other stay current on the latest developments regarding cancer and substantive discussions like this one are interesting to boot!0
