need to hear these
My hubby was dx in Dec with stage IV w/mets on the liver. He starts the folfox in a couple of weeks. I really need to hear the stories of long survivals. Right now nothing would lift my spirits more. I know we can endure anything these treatments dish out as long as I know there's a good chance he will still be here years from now. His spirits are so good I'm afraid to let him know how scared I am.

I'll go
I'm also going to find a thread from a few months ago with a hundred and more survivors stories!!! It's titled Semi-colons roll call.
Dxed stage IV (mets to liver and left lung)April 04'. Surgery not an option so did chemo, folfox 6 with avastin for 8 months. I was not 100% when I started chemo so it kicked my butt bigtime and I chose to talk a break and concentrate on alternatives for awhile in Nov 04'.
They worked wonders for me (you can read more about my story on my website here, just click on my avatar) and I was soon getting good news. By Jan 06' I was being told I was NED (no evidence of disease) so I finally had surgery where they removed a small tumor where my original primary had been. My liver and lymph nodes all were clean.
I just celebrated my 5 year cancer free mark in Oct 09'!!!! There are others and hopefully you will hear form them too.

count me in!
Hello,
I just wanted to chime in and say that I too am a Stage IV survivor. I was diagnosed in 2002 at the ripe age of 31. I had a colon resection followed by 6 months of 5-FU and Leukovorin. That was the only chemo available at that time. Shortly after finishing that a walnut sized tumor was found on my liver. I had that removed followed by 6 rounds of XELIRI (Xeloda and Irinotecan). Following that, several months later my 2 right lung nodules showed up. They were removed in October of 2004. I did not have any more chemo following that. I also have adopted a low sugar diabetic style diet and stuck strictly with that for several years. I also have been on a variety of supplements and consulted w/ an N.D. Lisa and I are on the same "schedule". Just the other day I was released from my oncologist. I still feel apprehensive and nervous going forward but I know I have beaten the odds getting to this point. I don't know if I will ever feel totally carefree like I did before, but so far so good.
Best of luck to all of you,

Just curious as to the types of supplements that you are on. I am dramatically altering my diet as of tomorrow. I have to start chemo (again)....At the age of 28 I was diagnosed stage III rectal in '06. Chemo, radiation, surgery, more chemo...now metastasized into my lungs.
Now 31, I am determined and somewhat convinced that if I "shock" my body I can beat this.
Any thoughts are appreciated.0 -

there is no silver bullet with cancer,
my hubby tried the herbal diet, juicing and one year later is stage 4.
He is now on chemo and inoperable.
In your case you tried the chemo but cancer recurred.
With cancer there are no guarantees, only good luck.
You should try the herbal diet, you might get lucky.
this is a great book mention often by others "Beating cancer with nutrition"0
