first
sometimes the first is the hardest, why did it take 7hrs? after my first chemo i was unable to eat and all i wanted to do was sleep, well now most days all i do is sleep i am now starting on my 2nd set of chemo(6 treatments).0 -
Glad to hear it went well
Just be kind to your tummy, and I recommend trying to get some activity in, even if you feel tired. I think my digestion was helped more if I walked around a bit than if I did nothing but rest.
Do you have anti-nausea meds? My onco instructed me to take mine twice a day even if I didn't feel I needed them. I've heard they are much more effective as prevention than after-the-fact.
Take care, and hope it continues to go well for you!

Good Job!
Angel,
Good for you! The first is always the most intimidating. I've had 2 of 4 - the next one is next Tuesday. I'm doing the 4 treatments of taxotere and cytoxan. The first treatment gave me flushing on my neck, face, torso. If this happens to you, let your oncologist know as, when my second treatment was done, I reacted to the taxotere right away and they gave me Benadryl and some more steroids. I also had steroids afterwards for a couple of days - by mouth. After 2 weeks, I feel really well. Have only had 1 anti-nausea pill after 5 weeks of this stuff. Now that I'm halfway there, I'm sure I'm going to make it through the regimen. Praise God!
You should be feeling better every day now!

food
I would recommend that even though you feel pretty good, try to avoid your favorite foods. I felt pretty good the night after my first chemo, so I ate one of my favorite foods (can't even write what it is). I got pretty sick later and can never even think about eating that food again and this is 10 months later. Just eat mild food, applesauce... Continue with anti-nausea meds. Hope you continue to feel well.0 -
Having my first Chemo tomorrow - Thursday.
Angel I'm glad you came thru w/ not too many side effects. I'd like to continue talking with you since our start dates are almost the same. Good luch with the rest of the week. Will you need other treatments before your next chemo? I'll have chemo on Thurs, a shot on Friday and blood work in two weeks. This will be cycle 1. I'll have 6 cycle every three weeks. Good luck. :

Yay! One of the worst parts of Chemo is now behind you! Now you know what to expect. The first one always seems to take longer. Your future treatments may "only be" about 5 hours!
Take gentle care of yourself!
Hugz,
Cathy
Jacki-Good luck today on your 1st one, hope all goes smoothly! Let us know how you're doing.0 -
Yes, drink tons of water to
Yes, drink tons of water to flush the chemo out.
My first chemo was easy, too, I did come home and sleep... I had AC first... I did call the dr. on the Sunday after my first chemo to ask if I could take more anti nausea and the nurse said "of course".
I found that eating spicy food hurt my throat, they did tell me not to, but I forgot.
I had 4 ACs, now I'm on taxotere, and my side effects are completely different. No nausea at all, but different stuff.
It will be OK. Good luck to you.0 -
Hooray!
That's one you can cross off your list! I had my first one on Jan 4, and it took about 3 hours--I'm so sorry your first one took so long!
I found that a little ginger ale and pretzels helped settle my stomach. I was given phenergan to take if I felt nauseated, and I cut the pills in half and just took one half. With the ginger ale and taking things slowly for an hour, it helped a lot.
Hang in there! Sandy0 -

Your on a roll now. One down and thats the hardest because you don't know whats going to happen. Make sure you take your anti nausea drugs before every treatment. Emend is a name of a very good anti nausea drug.I did a total of 16 rounds and it was a pain but doable. Good luck0 -

You will fall into a routine now once you know what to expect and how you react to it. Eat bland, gentle foods and try to get adequate nutrition. Good luck with the rest of the week.

Thank you all for the encouragment and advice on how to get throught this. Yesterday and today has been a little bit challenging. Real tired and upset tummy. I really am a water drinker, but even that seems to be a challenge, but doing it. God bless you all

You just keep pushing thru them Angel and you will be done before you know it! It is good that you are a water drinker as you need to drink lots of it.
