After 2 years. My husband returned to work because cancer was under control. He worked for 2 month only. Suddenly a terrible pain started and we had to go to Emergency romm. My husband started chemotherapy again last week . Dr. recommended to stop working and focused on chemotherapy at least for the first 3 months, but now in his job they sent us a paper that he doesn't have enough hours to get medical leave. But we were told that working 80 hours in a month he would recover all his benefits. What are my options?

    Family Medical Leave
I don't know if this will help or not but you should look into Family Medical Leave if you have not already done so. The FML is designed to protect your job in case of a serious illness. I used FML when I had to take a leave of abscence after my lobectomy, however my circumstances were different. Good luck.

    Family Medical Leave Act
I would also suggest that you check into the FMLA and the American Disability Act which was revised in Jan 2009 --Like you don't have enough on your plate---
Good luck with your treatments my prayers are with you

Hi! There are ways! Start researching the different orgs and see what legal help they can offer you. If the cancer is lung cancer, contact the American Lung Assoc. Does your husband work in the private sector or for State or Fed. Government? There are programs where other employees can donate sick hours. Just don't stop :)
    All the best to you!

    thank you for your advice.
thank you for your advice. I'm not sure if his company is private of if it is part of the state. But I'm going to search in the American Lung Assoc and see what I can find. Thank you very much.

FMLA and things to think about.
It'a a Federal Law but he may have already exhausted it. Does FMLA roll on a calendar year or a rolling 13 month period for his compnay? Does he have STD or LTD? Is his life insurance convertable, should he be terminated? Do they offer COBRA Medical Insurance?

    Dear Nana:
    We were in Cobra

    Dear Nana:
We were in Cobra before, but my husband returned to work and we cancelled Cobra. The company has FMLA but he only worked 2 months (after 2 years of being out ), so he doesn't have enough hours. The company has LTD and we used this benefit before . What I don't know is about the life insurance convertable. Can you tell me more about this option? I know he has life insurance, but not sure of this option.
Thank you very much for this information.
