It's been a while
It's been a while since I visited here. A lot has happened since the last time I posted. First, I got my 3-year all-clear! That was wonderful. Now I only do blood work every 6 months instead of every 3, and the odds of recurrence within the next 10 years have gone down. No guarantees, I know, but encouraging, nontheless.
Second, my sister completed her chemo for her breast cancer and is now doing herpecin IVs every 3 weeks only. I saw her at Christmas and although she is somewhat debilitated, she is cancer-free as far as we know.
Third, my husband commited suicide 6 weeks ago. He was a depressive and an alcoholic. When he lost his job he gave up any pretense at controlling himself and drank himself into a state where he could do it. He did it in the garage while I was in the room off the garage. He was a hunter and knew exactly where to shoot, so he was essentially dead on the spot. I just pray that he is out of spiritual pain and that God has healed his spirit. I am recovering from the trauma of that event and getting some spiritual counseling. It seems to be helping.
All that said, I am glad to be back and connecting with fellow survivors. It takes a lot to survive all sorts of things. I am proud of each and every one of you for fighting as hard as you do.
Hugs to everyone,
Kirsten

Oh Kristen, Gosh I'm so
Oh Kristen,
Gosh I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I'll pray for you. I cannot begin to imagine what you're going through.
Great to hear about your sister! I've been seeing huge 'cure rates' for breast cancer. One of my dear friends is 8 years cancer free after finding it at 34.
Congrats on 3 years! From something I read just a week or so ago, 80% of recurrences happen within the first 2 years. 19% within years 2- 5 and 1% after 5 years. Sounds like you're heading to CURED!
I'm so glad your talking with someone about your husband's death and, again, I'll remember you in prayer.

Thanks so much, Diane. Prayer has carried me through everything. I cling to the notion that God doesn't give us what we can't handle. A few years ago I considered myself a weak person. Events have contradicted that! Thank you for your prayers.

It's good to see you back here and connecting back with us, we're always here for you, no matter what. I am really sorry to hear about your husband, how devastating that is, I am glad you are talking with a spiritual counselor, and that it's helping. You will be in my prayers, but hey, great news about about you being cancer free! I am very happy for you, and wish you many more years of it! Please come back more to talk, it does help, big hugsss to you too!

Oh, dear.
Oh, Kirsten.
You've had so much to deal with, and I just hate that for you. But I'm so glad that you and your sister are both making great progress against the BEAST.
I'm so very sorry about your husband. I hope you have someone good for counseling, if you need to do that.
I'll be praying for you.
*hugs*

haven't been on in a while either
Kirsten,
I was happy to see a post from you, glad to hear about your 3 years cancer free (that is kick AZZZ!), sorry to hear about your husband. It's hard when our loved ones are too weak to help themselves and too unwilling to reach out for help. I am glad you are seeing a counselor and will pray you work through this tragedy soon, coming out to a place of peace on the other side. As far as God not giving us more than we can handle, you know the old joke, I just wish He didn't trust me so much! Good to hear from you gal!0 -
