Dx at 8 and still here to enjoy the sunshine
I still live with my parents. My Mom, asked me to read these posts, as she joined it to support a special friend of ours, who is battling cancer now.
My name is Michelle, and I just turned 25. I was first diagnosised with ALL at the age of 8. Unfortunately, after my 2 years and 2 months of Chemo with Valley Children's Hospital...we found the cells had hid on my optic nerve, creating a tumor and taking my sight in that eye. Beccause of what happened to me, they changed the protocal to add a few doses of radiation to children's eyes, with ALL. I'm not happy it happened to me, but so glad no other child will have to go through it, due to what they learned from my experience.
The first round had almost been a walk in the park, as to the next couple of years, with central nervous system involvement, my body had a very rough time, and left me with permanent disabilites. I had 21 surgeries in 1 year( 3 of which were brain surgeries to try to stop asperguillus fungus in my brain), coded for 11 minutes at age 11, was in a coma for months, and when I woke, all I could move was one finger. Its been a long road and at times I have questioned why I made it, while my friends didn't. All I know for sure is....God is real, he never left my side and never will. Positive thinking is one of the most important things in this battle. If we give up, our body seems to want to do the same. Even though I am unable to do alot of things I once planned I would, ( I was doing 7th grade math in the 2nd grade) I know I am loved and God has a purpose for me.
I couldn't remember how to do math when I woke, but I did still remember all 3 verses of "Gangster's Paradise", lol I love music, I'm eclectic. Music is the way I take a vacation from the chronic pain I deal with.
I will be praying for everyone and sending my special angels their way. Spread the word....its LOVE . With love, Michelle0 -

Hey I'm 17, about a month and a half now cancer survivor. They took my entire stomach and I;m kinda looking for guidence for that but also for people who have had to deal with any of this stuff at all. I had an ostomy and I went to the internet in recovery for some moral support and greatly benifited. So I'm here always online through this stage of my life. If you need someone close to teen years I'm 17.

Hi Kendra my son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in Feb of this yr. and he is been under treatment since then. He will love to talk to someone that he can relate to, he just asked me to get a priest or some type of support group because he needed to talk to someone. He is really down, he gets like that after chemo but he really is a very positive young man with a lot of plans of going to collage and meet girls. Do you want to talk to him? I will let him know about this site as soon as he wakes up. He had a chemo treatment today was done with it around 3pm and its 7pm so he is been sleeping for 4hrs, he has another treatment tomorrow @ 10am pray for him. Thank you for let me talk to you. I am 24 years old and was diagnosed with a grade 3 osteosarcoma when I was 17. I recieved multiple treatments of radiation and chemotherapy in Sloan Kttering Hospital in the pediatric center. Feel free to come to me with any questions or just to talk, I was young when this occured in my life and I know it can be hard for others (esp your peers) to understand exactly what it is your going through. I didnt have the availability to talk to others then but I am more than willing to change that for anyone else that is going through treatments. Please contact me if you ever feel the need to talk or just share experience! jadamo112584@yahoo.com

Hello all... ^_^
It made me smile seeing that I'm not alone in the world when it comes to being a cancer survivor. I am 17, and I'm a 17yr cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer the day I was born on July 30th, 1993, and after surgery on August 1st, 1993, I was free of cancer at three days old. (So I think I'm the youngest person to be cured of cancer?) This is my first day on the site, and it already makes me feel better reading all the stories.
I always felt like a bit of a freak, being a cancer survivor, and being blind in my right eye (A tragic hunting accident when I was 6.) I've never met another cancer survivor before, let alone one my age.
I currently live with my parents, but plan to move out on my own in the next few months. I would love to talk or chat with some of the other people here and swap stories and make friends.0 -
