Juicing
After my liver met DX my husband ordered me the Healthmaster. I have been juicing beets; mixing them up with cucumber, organic carrot juice or daily green juice, and juice of 1/2 a lemon. It isn't a Jamba Juice smoothie, but not too bad. Good luck experimenting with different combinations!
Warmly,

I am interested in getting a juicer, I have been looking at the Omega ones, boy they are $$$ though.0 -
what juicer do you have?
Hi Nana,
What kind of juicer do you have (or does your daughter have?)
My husband got me one for Christmas, but we never talked about what kind I wanted. He just got me a GE juicer for $50. I'm going to return it to get a better one. This one actually required you to peel the fruits, remove seeds, etc. If I have to do that, I won't even bother. I can't afford top of the line, but maybe a little over $100. Hopefully, I can get something acceptable for that amount of money. Any suggestions? Easy/no prep and easy clean up is important or I won't bother using it once I have it.

Sent me an Omega juicer, and it's awesome! you do have to cut the veggies and fruits up, but that's ok, but it makes great juice! I put in carrots, apples, spinach, romaine lettuce, pears, blueberries, pineapple, anything I have on hand! I just bought beets, but it tastes a bit like dirt, though I'll keep using it because I did hear it was good for the liver. I did Emily's recipe as well, and it is wonderful! try it! just a little greens at a time, I been juicing like a few times a week, I run out of veggies and fruits real fast, which is good, at least they aren't hanging around till they rot anymore!

I've had one for years, you had to cut the fruit, then I got a wide mouth one, I just bought the new stainless model with bigger motor. I've been a big juicer since my late 20's. Imagine my surprise when I got colon cancer. Anyway, I know they make more expensive models, but for the the money, I recommend the jack lalane juicer.0 -

You have to wash the beets first! ;-)
I've juiced beets before, they are intense but in a good way and talk about beet-red. I have a Hamilton Beach juicer and I only have to cut stuff up so it fits in the chute, I don't have to peel anything. Often I'll put the scraps in the garden to compost.0 -

That's the juicer I have. TRY KOHLS for one, if you have a KOHLs department store. BTW don't give the grand kids too much juice, fresh or not! WOW potty patrol!0 -

I have a silver bullet, my brother bought the Jack Lalane we had a juice off to see which one worked the best. My silver bullet extracted more juice from the same amount of fruit and his juice was thicker than mine. I won the juice off....100.00 at Costco0 -

I always wash my veggies and cut them up LOL..do you have to cook the beets first or something??? they were so hard to cut anyway, another good veggie I been using is mango and papayas, and kiwis, I been buying up EVERYTHING I can get my hands on, and just mixing it up, but apples and carrots are the best, I have to have that in every juice, now to just buy that green powder that Em talks about, I'd be set!

Hi Peggy,
If you prefer veggies then you're ahead of the game. With cancer healing it's really best to focus on the veggies and the GREEN veggies at that!
While fruit juice tastes great, it's the green veggie juice that's da bomb for curing cancer.
Cancer Kick Butt Juice:
5 juicing carrots
1 apple
1 celery stalk
2 kale leaves
wedge cabbage
small chunk ginger
handful parsley
you can skip the apple if you prefer.
I have the Champion juicer (www.discountjuicers.com) and you can surely look on Craig's List or eBay for juicers.
Omega Juicers are supposed to be really good.
Personally I think the centrifugal juicers (JuiceMan and Jack LaLane's) are harder to clean.
Wash all ORGANIC produce but you don't have to peal unless you're doing something like pineapple.
Cheers! And Happy New Year!

I love juicing beets with greens, carrots, spinach, and a tart apple. If I'm on chemo the I'll also add some fresh ginger. There is a problem though. It gives me very dark reddish stool. If I drink it, then I will have to stop for a few days to make sure nothing is wrong with my plumbing. This is one of the reasons I didn't notice any blood in my stool, which delayed my diagnosis.
A really good recipe for veggie lovers.
celery
bell pepper
spinach
dill pickle
small amount of mustard green0 -

Hi Peggy:
Are you a person who enjoys spicy flavors? If so, juice a bit of fresh green pepper (jalapeno, etc.) in your vegetable mix. As others have suggested, ginger gives the vegetable juice a spicy boost in flavor, too. If you are into spicy flavors, fresh cilantro is also great in your juice mixture.
I've enjoyed making our own version of V8 with my juicer--tomatoes, celery, carrots, bell pepper, jalapeno, etc.
I'm with others who have extolled the virtues of juicing beets. I think beet juice is wonderful. (You can incorporate a bit of beet juice into your V8 if you like or make a non-tomato juice with beets, apples, etc..) I don't think you can spend too much time scrubbing the beets, though. They are dirt-magnets! And, as an extra bonus, you can incorporate the beet greens into your juice!
I use an Omega Vert juicer. The machine is pricey but does a great job and is a breeze to clean.

Thank Emily,
I was hoping you'd chime in with a recipe of yours! You had shared several of your recipes several months ago and I actually printed them out, but misplaced them and never got the juicer yet either. Now that I've returned the GM juicer yesterday, I'm going to concentrate on finding a new one. I think I will try to find a good price on an Omega. Do you know anything about the different Omega models? I've seen the Omega 8003 and 8005 models advertised a lot. Do you what the difference is between the two- is the least expensive Omega still better than most other brands in your opinion?
