Friends,
Just wanted you to know that Elfin Chin, my daughter's little Japanese Chin and Emmy's friend, left us on Dec 21st for Rainbow Bridge. I sure do miss him. You can see a pix of the little guy from last Christmas, sitting in his new bed.

The house is so quiet without him here, since Emmy and him are no longer racing up and down the hall and wrestling in the living room (his mere 9 pounds to Emmy's 55). He was so full of life, until Sunday the 20th when he began to have labered breathing and, by 5:30pm on Monday, he was oxygen dependent. Cancer had invaded his little body in matter of less than 48 hours and it was only right to let him go.

PS
I'll write more later when I have a moment and catch up with all of you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know you are shocked and devasted. There are no words of comfort at times like this. He had a wonderful life and hopefully the memories of his love and joy of life will be of some help during these horrible first days of grief.

    Hugs, Judy :-)

Thank you-see his pix on my expression page
His pix is on my expressions page, along with my Eva whom I lost last summer, and Emmy who is my constant companion. Elfin really was a cutie, if I say so myself :).

So sorry to hear about your little girls dog.I haven,t talked to two many people that knows what a japanese chin is.When my daughter got married 10yrs. ago she wanted to take my pekineese dog with her and i couldn,t part with him.She had been going to a pet shop and fell in love with this little chin puppy.Me and her then new husband went and bought it for her.She couldn,t beleive it.her name is clowey. She is 10yrs. old.She has bad health, she is in heart failure. She is a whole 7-lbs.She is on alot of medicine. When my daughter had her son soon to be 6yrs. old,we didn,t know how clowey would take to the baby.but she did and is now my gransons dog.The vet said she could live a month,a year. They don,t know,I can imagine what you are going through,we will be going through it also.I am grand Maw to clowey. The strange thing also i looked at Elfins picture and she looks just like our clowey.I will pray for you and your little girl.Love and prayers.(Pat).

    The Rainbow Bridge
So so sorry to hear of the loss of your furry friend~ a sad day, to be sure. These four legged family members do indeed attach themselves to our hearts, and leave an indelible print. :-(

I was drawn right away to your subject being called Rainbow Bridge. The rainbow bridge is such a big part of the Native Tribe (Chumash) here in central California. In a nutshell, Mother Earth built a Rainbow Bridge for the Tribe to cross from one island to the mainland, as they needed more room/food for the grwing Tribe. The people were afraid to cross such a high bridge over the ocean, but Mother Earth promised she would care for them on the journey over. Sadly, most of those crossing over let their fear get the better of them. They looked down into the ocean, lost their balance, and fell in. They would have perished, but true to her word, Mother Earth took care of the Tribe by turning them instantly into dolphins! They could jump, swim, play, eat!

To this day, the Chumash Tribe feels linked with the dolphins, and many children are named
Allokoy ( Chumash for Dolphin). When the Tribe makes it's annual voyage over the ocean from the mainland to the islands, and literally THOUSANDS of dolphins swim and jump alongside the canoe, the connection they feel is palpable!

Sorry for making a "left turn" from the sad news of your sweet dog...I just couldn't help it!

    Hugs, nuzzles,and wagging tails,
    Chen♥

    I think
I can answer this although I am not the original poster. It is where our furry family members go when they die. See

(BTW this is where I got one of my cats--love this organization)

    The Rainbow Bridge
Kindred Spirit - thank you for sharing the Chumash story of Rainbow Bridge. It is beautiful. I always love these posts from you (and Reggie)...

In answer to your/his question, I'm not sure if there's a direct connection - or not... But, for whatever it might be worth...

rainbowbridge.com was created (years ago) specifically as an everlasting cyberspace memorial site for pets. I'm certainly not sure which came first - usage of the phrase "Rainbow Bridge" by bereaved pet owners, or if usage of the phrase was born out of the well-known site. My best guess would be the latter...

    Kindest regards,
    12/25
