My husband has been having trouble with his breathing for the past three months, he went out christmas eve and after being home for an hour he said he was having difficulty breathing, i got him to the hospital where they gave him an ecg, blood tests which showed he had no infection or virus also he has no wheezing at all. They did a chest xray and found some reticulonodular shadowing on his lung, i guess im just worrying myself over nothing, but have come here for some reasurrance. Thankyou

    Bettyrubble,
You have a right to worry, but dont let it over come you. A shadow on and xray could be many things, all of which can be treated. I have heard of the shadow on somepeoples xrays being just a slight infection dealt with using antibiodics,(I cant spell half the time).
Everyone jumps to the worse case when they hear things like that and all most always it turns out to be no threat at all, But if it is they can treat it.
First and formost follow through with finding out what it is,and always get a 2nd opion just to make double sure what you husband is dealing with. Never give up or give in, you both just have to keep a positive attitude and outlook no matter what.
This site is a great resourse and support system, and always willing to answer questions or give support. You and your husband are not alone, everyone here is here to help each other.

Our Prayers and Best Wishes to Your Husband, You and Your Family,
    Dan (cobra1122) and Margi Harmon

    Hello Betty
There are many possibilites. I know it's hard but you must try not to worry until you have firm answers based on test results. I also think it's best not to surf the web too much and try to figure it out yourself. I did that when they found a strange thing in my lung and I would cry myself to sleep based on what I thought I had learned.

In my case the mass in my lung was a really bad infection. This had not shown up on blood tests or biopsies, they only found it after surgery. Of course I cannot even begin to guess what is wrong with your husband, but please be assured there are possibilities other than cancer.

I hope you will stay in touch and let us know your results. Best of luck to you.

    Only the shadow knows
I cannot provide reassurances, bettyrubble, but I can let you know from personal experience that shadows are sometimes nothing more than that, shadows of things that have occurred earlier in life, scars from bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, even from smoking itself, and who knows what else.

    Did I mention infections?

It is probably not possible to keep from worrying, but please be advised that there are any number of other causes for these 'shadows'.

In the meantime, please know that waiting is the hardest part, to borrow from a Tom Petty song.

Take care and best wishes to your husband and his family,

    Joe

Hi! I by no means wish to make you worry more but do not let the shadow fall through the cracks. As short as I can make this..it can be a lot of things but when a person can't breathe..there IS a reason..even if it is a panic attack.i was accused of being too anxious while trying to find an answer to my breathing problem .I smoked so of course I couldn't breathe right. After asking my family dr to send me to a pulmonary specialist..even he could find nothing wrong although all he did was a breathing function test.I had xrays and a cat scan in the ER,stll nothing,Even had my gall bladder out and at least that dr. heard some wheezing and gave me a breathing med. before surgery. The short of it is 14 months after trying to find out what was wrong .I got puemonia which would not go away and by that time I had 3rd stage inoperable terminal lung cancer. Had the drs really listened and done an MRI it would have been caught sooner, but the blessing to this story is.After chemo and radiation and still no surgery possible..I believed from the beginning that Gods Word was true and my family and I continued to believe God for a miracle.I was given 2 months to ? to live and today 21 months later..just got the results from my last scan Dec,11th. and by the grace of God I am still cancer free.Don't let the drs do to you what they did to me and I was and still am petrified of cancer..except I am also living proof that God is greater than my greatest fear!!

    The miracle of science!
I fail to understand why some people refuse to give credit to their doctors and their chemo and their radiation. By all means, believe what you like, but please pass on some of the credit for your health to the science that gave it back to you!

    credit to science
I have thanked my oncologist and my radiologist many times for what they have done for me after I was finally diagnosed.I was neglected by so many medical people for 14 months when I knew something was wrong. My cancer Drs. themselves will tell you just as they tell me..they did not do this for me..this was an act of someone higher. They themselves call me special,a miracle. My radiologist told me my kind of cancer and stage does not go into remission at this point..but it did.God is my source for all things and I agree drs are wonderful, gifted people and save many lives.I have three drs and two nurse practitioners in my family. But sometimes it takes a miracle..beyond chemo, radiation and drs.Science did not save my life from terminal cancer, and science did not give it back to me.I give credit where credit is due..respectfully, Jill

    I concur.

I am reminded of athletes thanking God for victory ... God had nothing better to do than arrange things so that you won? And what happened to the prayers of the guys on the other team?

To me, it is the essence of egocentricity to believe that some higher power is listening specifically to one individual's beseechments for cure, for healing, while ignoring those of others.

Take care, my sweet (and brave, it seems :)) friend,

    higher power
Soccerfreaks, I have read many of your post and I feel your pain.I have suffered great pain myself in the past four years with my own cancer as well as losing a 58 yr.old brother to cancer and a 51 year old brother in a motorcycle accident.God still answers prayer.be it your time to go on to eternity..if thats what you believe in... or your healing here on earth. There is way too much to even discuss when it comes to beliefs, but if you know what the Bible says and that is what you truly believe..God is there.Every one gets there chance to win.It is all about ..do you really know the Word of God..do you have a speaking realationship with Him? I do..He never ignores anyone who calls opon Him..and if they have taken the time to have a relationship with Him, there will be alot of understanding along with alot of the whys?.And He cares about your feelings about winning a soccer game but knowing his Word would let you know..he cares about athletes. But winning a game is not His desire.Winning your heart is.To spend eternity with him and your loved ones who do believe in His promise of that perfect world which is not here. Not one for trying to give a sermon..so this is the best I have to offer from my side of the fence.Do you think I don't wish my brothers were still here? I do know my brother who died from cancer would not firmly believe for his healing here.I chose to use every Word in the Bible with a promise for added life and healing..Was that the difference? I think so. But trusting God I know they are in better hands and He knows things which we don't.You are a wise man.I can tell from your writings..I am way below your intellectual level..so if you are curious..get the book.Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. An atheist set out to prove there is no God ..and surprised himself instead by proving there is. Love to you. jill

I am well aware of the works of C S Lewis, Jill, along with his conversion from atheist to christian and the wealth he eventually earned from that conversion, related or not, through the Narnia series and other books.

There IS a board on this site, spirituality, meditation, and so on, where people discuss the very subject you raise, but without rancor, without the misconception (?) that you are preaching.

My feeling is that religion has a place in all of the boards, for what it is worth, although I am weary and leary of the recent strident insistence upon belief (and I am apparently not alone in that regard, stayingcalm not the only one who is standing up and suggesting that there is a time and a place and this is not the time nor the place).

I think that CSN made the other board for the specific purpose of allowing for contemplation of our beliefs and I was among the very first to salute them for that wonderful idea.

Me, I am an agnostic, an unknower. I have no agenda here with respect to that issue: I envy those who have truly found a higher being, a hereafter. I do. And I have any number of friends on this site who are ardent Christians. They accept my flaws and I accept theirs, as it were. And we agree that we are here to help if and as we can, while finding therapy of our own, perhaps, in the doing of it.

Until rather recently on this board and a few others that I participate in, there seemed to be an unwritten acknowledgement that religion and politics were anathema here. I am hopeful that you can see why.

To wit, cancer has no prejudices, jill, does not choose from among skin hues, political suasion, religious belief, age, habits: it is the least discriminatory of diseases, taking all, and taking them sometimes, it seems, at random.

Complicating all that is going on for the suffering, for the newly discovered survivor, is hardly worth it regardless of sex, religion, age, race, whatever.

That is my take, humbly submitted.

    Take care,

    Joe

    God actually gave me those
God actually gave me those words after my diagnoses..it is what I still hold on to every day.I am so glad I shared them. You are in my prayers as I pray for all cancer patients..though you don't have an answer yet.But don't let them brush you off as i wrote to Bettyrubble. And no one could have been more afraid then I going through all the treatments ,etc. But for real i would and still just say "Jesus" I am scared again today.I need Your help" And He fills me with His peace that surpasses all understanding.I know your fear!!! prayers, jill

I am not here to debate who to thank and who to believe nor am I going to debate faith.

I pray everyday for Gods will to be done, I know if he wants me healed, the gifts that the Docs have will be used to do this. He has a reason for everything, winning or losing sometimes the thank God for giving them the life they have , to be a good athlete not just like the next guy. but the faith to know they can do it. Faith is what keeps alot of us going, given what the Docs and others have done, it is our faith that there is a reason that we strive to go on.
If it were not for my faith I wont continue on with the fight, the pain, the constant problems associated with getting up each day. But I believe that God has a plan fir me as he does for everyone, and that is my reason for fighting on. I have out lived my son, my parebts, my brother, and many friends, and I am only 49 yrs old. I am on Hospice, but this is not the way I chose to live my life, yet I find peace that I am somehow doing what God has intended me to do. I have outlived every diaignosis I have been given, tho sometimes I wish that I could find my rest. I find peace instead knowing that the day will come when I am at peace and in a better place.

Not everyone has to believe what I believe, that is their choice and they have that right. as I have the right to believe what I do. But I am saddened when I see how people have to tear at others believes for what propose? I give the Docs all their praise, as I do all involved, But I give God praise for the life I have had and Have now, because in an instant it can change...

There go I but by the grace of God

Our Prayers and Best Wishes to all, and a Happy New Year, may it bring further advances toward the fight against cancer.

A soldier once said How can God let war exist... the Chaplin said God had nothing to do with this he's here letting us decided our course, He is always there but sometimes as a Father he lets his kids find their own way, let them make decisions, learn, and someday realize that not all things will be of him, some will be of man himself........
