Just wondering how long after the actual Chemo treatment do the side effects come? How long do the side effects last? I have heard they start 2 to 3 days after treatment to 6 to 7 days after treatment. Is it constant? Just nervous about what type of chemo and if I will be able to work. some of the side effects I've read about makes me wonder? Hope all of you have a really Merry Christmas.

    Your Onco should tell you.......
I start my Chemo on Jan. 12th. But your Onco should tell you what to execpt from the "chemo cocktial" you will be taking. He should give you papers on them so you can read about it. Atleast mine did. Will be praying for you and right now my God's peace consume you and guide you through this.

    God Bless,

    Thank you
I will find out tomorrow. Nervous, but completely understand and can relate to God's peace. I will need his strength and peace as I go through this. I hope to get on here more. This all has happened so fast, and I have had company for the last three weeks. I hope to soon be able to spend more time here. My journey has just begun, I pray that I am as brave and strong as the other women on this board. Thank you all for the prayers adn repsonses. They mean so much. I dont feel so alone.

    what kind of chemo?
I found it Really helpful to research the kind(s) of chemo, on this site, and the internet generally. On this board I found
really helpful things to counteract the side effects, that my doctor approved, but never would have told me about. So I recommend doing that before you start, if you can. But don't be too daunted by the number and kinds of side effects, you hopefully won't get them all!

    Seeing medical onco
I had my chemo treatments on Fri and took Mondays off from work too. Most of the time I was back to work on Tuesdays. I was usually pretty fatigued two days after the treatment. None of my side effects were that bad and were controlled by meds from my oncologist. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. You will do fine. Drink lots of water.

    Chemo
Drinking lots of water during and afterwards helps get the meds through your body. I have chemo on Thursdays. I go every 3 weeks. Although I could go to work right after chemo for a few hours, I opt to take the whole day off. Friday I go to work and I get my Neulasta shot on my way home from work. Saturday & Sunday, I'm pretty tired and achy. Many on here take Claritan for the aches and pains, but I find that day/night flu medicine works better for me... Claritan never seemed to make a difference. I have been gargling with salt water & baking at nights every night since the day before my first treatment and haven't had any mouth sores nor lost my taste buds... not sure if there is any correlation but I like to share just in case. I just had my 4th of 6 treatments on Christmas Eve morning and thank God, have not any any intolerable side effects. I do get constipated but if I have Activia faithfully, it's not a problem. I sometimes forget and before you know it, it's been days and I realize I'm faced with it again.

You know, it's a shame that my oncologist charges so much money and I seem to get better answers here. I go in every week with a list of questions and I always feel 'rushed' and I get half-**** answer. I think the real answers lie here amongst all the survivors who have traveled the path. It's so true that everyone reacts differently, but it seems there will always be at least one person who has experienced something you may be feeling.

Working doesn't come as easy as it used to, but I can work. I have an office job and for the most part do not expel a lot of physical energy at work. It is also helpful that I have an extremely understanding boss, and if ever I'm a little late or need to leave a little early, he's always fine with it.

It really does all happen so fast and there's just so much to take in. It's pretty hard to absorb all that you have to in such a quick amount of time and see your body go through so many changes, but be patient, be positive and know that as quickly as it came, it will go. Chemo is not what it used to be and you can get through it.

    Good luck and keep posting!
