looking for info on pain
**** is on day 2 of his pump today. He is on his 6th Folfori + Avastin treatment (prior he did 12 rounds of Folfox 6). On his 5th treatment 2 weeks ago he had intermittent sharp pain on his left side (same side as port) along his collarbone and side. This time it is on his right side and the sharp pain is on the collarbone, side and where his resection was. He feels the pain about 8 times a day and it lasts intensely for 30 seconds and lingers for 10 minutes. Anyone else have this?
**** is still able to walk around and he rode his bike on a short ride with his pump. We are just wondering what this may be.
Thanks for your support.
Aloha,
Kathleen

Poor Guy!
I hate to hear when one of our loved ones from the board is in pain. I am on the same cocktail, and can't say I ever have any pain. Sometimes I do have a sharp pain on my left side, but it goes away pretty quick. My onc said usually the pain is from the chemo killing the tumors, but watch for swelling or hotness in the area where the pain is. Is he running any fevers? If he is having pain 8 times a day and it's lingering, I'd definitely have it checked out just to be on the safe side though! Does he have good painkillers? How long has he been having this pain? Hope it's nothing serious, and just the chemo doing its job, but you'll both be in my prayers, and please let the onc know about this
Hugsss!

Thanks Donna
Thanks Donna,
You are such a love with your positive attitude and good info. It is so weird how the pain comes and goes. It will be interesting to see if it goes away when he unhooks tomorrow.

that doesn;t last but a second or two but its painful when i get them, in joints like hips, around area of stome, in sewn up rectum. in shoulders ,both injured in the past, in my sides, occassionally chest. Currently doing FOLFOX so don't know if thats cause.Have mentioned some of this to onc's assistants but will bring this to her attention next Tx date....Steve
PS:Did Duck have surgery and if so, how ling after did he start on bike again? Exercise is now being reported by media as vital in surviving lomger with CRC////I'm waiting for surgeon to let me lift weights again but I alsi use to use exercise bike for my lungs/////0 -

Hi Mags,
Ohhhh -6 and snowing eh? We lived in Minnesota for 4 years so I do know how those negative numbers feel. It sure is great to snuggle up and have some coffee or tea by the fire when it is that chilly.
**** unhooked from the pump today and has had no pain so far today. He's just very tired and he's sleeping right now.
Sending you warm thoughts and hugs from Hawaii!

Hi,
**** starting walking from the beginning. He was in the hospital after surgery (75% of colon removed, 7 cm of small intestine and apendix too) for a week. It took awhile for things to start up again and he was in a lot of pain (this was Jan 09). Within 2 weeks of surgery he was walking a mile. With in 2 months he was walking 4 miles and then at 3 months jogging 4 miles on good days. He took it slow at the gym, increasing weight very slowly. He did not want a hernia and heard they were common.
Now he jogs, surfs or works out about 8 days out of every 2 weeks. He has 4 days during chemo week that he just relaxes and then he gets back at it. It helps him a lot when he can feel healthy and strong.
Best to you.

Hi!
I'm also very sorry your in such pain. My experience was similar but it didn't go away. I had it continuously for the entire time I was plugged up. When I was unplugged it took usually a day or so before I felt total relief. I cried my eyes out to my Onc explaining I couldn't go on with the Chemo I wasn't able to tolerate the pain. I had the pain in my collarbone also going down my right side like I was continueously being stabbed. Horrific. Pain killers didn't do the trick. My Onc didn't like it and sent me immediately (stat) for an MRI of my complete brain, neck, spine and right shoulder. I was also in the emergency room the night before and received a CT of my entire respiratory system to rule out collaped lungs. There appeared to be a internal shingle in my right shoulder making a four inch nerve roar, however because my counts were excellent he was able to drop my cocktail and in return all pain went away. My liver appears to be clear and I don't have to return for 6 mos. to my liver surgeon which was great news. However, because of the right shoulder shingle and the liver mets being completely gone the pain appeared to be a combination of the shingle along with the chemo doing its part in my liver. Maybe that is what your experiencing and the Chemo is doing its part. I pray it will be an easy solve for you. But my advise is please either go to the ER or wait and have you Onc decide for you. But you have to get it checked out it is not fair for you to have this torment. My thoughts and prayers are with you and please keep us posted.0 -

I spent 8 days in hosp and it took quite some time for pain to subside enough for me to walk after I got home. Eventually started walking thru apartment until I got up to thity min nonstop with 3 pound weights on each ankle. Afraid to be near people cos of blood numbers. Then I started walking in street for a mile or so/day and tried sitting a little on bench.I would like to do weights again-lost all my muscles and at 59 don;t see putting them back on so lifting goal changes to strentgh and what won;t hurt stoma/rectum////Waiting for surgeon to give ok tho I did start playing with 3 pound dbs.I've heard about herniating stoma also so will be careful. Also currently doing Folfox with pump and third dose got to me now-.Good luck with your husbaND'S RECOVERy.I feel naked and vulnerable without my muscles )should]ve seen me at 45, I;m 59 now). Also, news media now reporting that exercise is good for better surviving colorectal cancer...sTEVE0 -

Hi,
Thanks for the good info. I want to make sure I know what you are talking about when you say shingle. Do you mean like shingles that is related to chicken pox? I did not know there was such a thing as a single shingle. I am very curious if this could be what **** has. Thanks so much.
