How come its not available for men undergoing chemo?
Particularly if its your girlfriend or wife as caregiver, such a service could be a godsend to those(men) in need of it.Fortunately, in our case, we're used to living with a mess-no,actually, I'll take care of my area on days/at times when Ican and besides, don't make much of a mess anyway. But a man living by himself undergoing chemo perhapscould use this help..Steve0 -

Thank you
Thank you so much for this information. A business associate of my husband, his daughter is only 23 and going through breast cancer treatment. This is something that she may be able to use. She was horribly sick from chemo but got through it, got through the surgery without a mastectomy and is now undergoing radiation. Take care - Tina0 -
Has anyone actually had success with this?
I filled out the application and it said I qualified. My doctor faxed a letter as requested. Then I got no response. I contacted them and was emailed that I was accepted, and they were finding someone in my area - that was a month ago. I've not heard back.
I know there are good programs out there, and there are scams. I am starting to wonder about this one. Maybe someone is collecting donations to keep this organization going, but it doesn't actually do anything? Or maybe I've just been lost in the shuffle. It is so hard to know what is real and what is not out there.0 -

One of my good friends who is a cervical cancer survivor forwarded it to me and so I thought I'd just pass the information along. I didn't try to sign up yet though.

Wow
This would be great if it was legitimate. I probably would contact the BBB before I used a service like this, but this was great information to pass along. Thank you!

and I got a form letter in return. It has been 5 weeks since I sent in my request and the doctor faxed a letter. The first sentence is the SAME as I received when I checked the status a few weeks back. Interesting how they didn't fill in the "approximately ____ weeks."
I asked them to just please let me know if they could not fill the request (after telling me that I qualified). No one reads the email as near as I can tell... I think it might be time to dig and see if this is legit or if they are out there accepting donations, and then not providing any services... Or if they are really a great organization, and are just overwhelmed with requests at this time.
Thank you checking on the status of your application. We have received your Dr note and currently looking for a maid service partner in your area.
We are experiencing an extremely high volume of patient applications at this time. Because of this our turn around time is approximately weeks to connect with a maid service partner in your area. Also many of our maid services currently have waiting lists. We will do our best to serve you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
If there is no participating maid service in your area at this time, or the maid service is full and cannot take anymore patients, please reapply back every few months at www.cleaningforareason.org.

My cousin referred me for this and when they called I was told that it may take months as they are having a hard time getting cleaning services to donate their time. They are not paying for it,so where are the donations going? To a staff to write letters that they cannot fill the request?
I work for a non profit foundation and this jsut does not seem right to me, this is thre sole purpose and they cannot seem to get it done?
Just food for thought.

At this time we have accepted over 2,000 applications in the past two weeks. We will not be accepting applications until Monday, December 7. Please check back with us then and we apologize for the inconvenience.
If you already applied, we are approximately 2 weeks behind in processing current applications. We will contact you by email prior to the 7th of December.
I applied over 5 weeks ago...
I also found this info on where donations would be going:
We have ten committed professionals serving on the board of directors for the Cleaning For A Reason Foundation. Our Board meetings are held via teleconferencing as our Board Members are scattered around the country. We currently lease a small office and have one full time employee and several part time employees. Mike Farney is our Executive Director managing the foundation. Lynn Olmstead is the foundation's Executive Recruiter responsible for recruiting professional residential maid services to partner with us, Shelley DeForest is our Patient Advocate, LeAnn Hunsucker is the Administrative Assistant and Betty Boehme is our Billing Clerk. We also utilize a host of volunteers in the office. The foundation's office is located 20 minutes North of Dallas in Lewisville, Texas.
They do have links to their 501(c)(3) designation and their tax filings. It looks like they are legit. Just overwhelmed...0 -

I find interesting that all 600+ cleaning companies who generously donate their services for this wonderful idea, also must pay a montly fee of $30 (do the math) So, where are all those thousands of Dollars going? Not just the cleaning companies making donations, but the private companies and individuals as well. Why is it that there is NOT EVEN ONE link to make a direct donations to Cancer Research?

Cleaning for a Reason is real. I own one of the companies that provide the cleaning. The residential cleaning companies area to clean the home at no charge to the customer or the foundation. Many companies are smaller so they can only do 4 - 5 clients for free at a time. Technically clinets are supposed to get 4 cleans for free but most of the services I know will continue to clean for as long as the cuistomer needs us but once again, that crates more of a backlog. The problem is in the internet day and age people have done a great job of forwarding around the news about C4R but the foundation was not really ready for the huge amount of requests that resulted. They are recruiting more cleaning services every day and working on options to make it so the companies can afford to do more cleanings. C4R never ran an advertising campaign, it just ran like wild fire through word of mouth and PR.0 -

I can understand a not for profit like this getting overloaded, particularly during the start-up phase. Sounds like they could use a larger organization to partner with.0 -
I guess was lucky
I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I read about this about a month ago, and went onto the website and applied. I figured that it would take a few weeks, and I understood the cleaning companies only accept so many at a time. I was contacted a couple of days later, and scheduled my first cleaning, which was this past Saturday. The cleaning service was Merry Maids, and two women showed up Saturday morning on time, and did two hours of cleaning, which is their maximum for this program. They did a great job. I have three more cleanings scheduled, and it is definitely a godsend. I can't believe there are so many having problems with this. I'm not really in a remote area or anything, in the San Francisco bay area. But I can tell you, it is definitely a legitimate program. Just sorry to hear some people having problems.0 -

Are they still charging the companies like yours that provide a FREE service to be a part of their system? That struck me as very wrong. When I had troubles with them, I did some digging into their financials and it looked to me to be something that was started to give someone a job, just as much as to help cancer patients.
I did not have a good experience with them at all. After a delay, I was told I was accepted and there were companies in my area - that I would be contacted soon. So when a friend that runs a cleaning service offered to help me out (and I knew it would be a hardship for her as she was going through a rough divorce), I turned her down. Then Cleaning for a Reason never came through. I didn't feel comfortable going back to my friend after turning her down.0 -

I've started to hear of a few people that have had success. But those unsuccessful still outweigh that. Hopefully things are turning around.0 -

Can be a loose term. The company I work for started in 1999 and turned its first profit in 2009, at any point in-between it might have been called a start up.
Of course we are all looking at a thread from 2009, so it is hard to judge how they are doing today...0
