    Sorry I haven't posted. I am doing very well. I finally had 'production' yesterday, after 5 days of nothing. It was interesting, to say the least! I am learning a lot, and moving forward. I have learned to change all the appliances (Boy did a LOT of boxes come in the mail from all the companies!)and I am healing rapidly.

    I have been off the boards both recovering and trying to support my daughter. Our youngest grandson is special needs and is undergoing many tests, therapies, etc. It is very hard to watch my daughter struggle with this. We know he has Dyspraxia, a muscle development issue, but he also has feeding issues/allergies/intolerances and isn't growing - at 19 months he's 21 pounds and in the bottom 5% for height. He doesn't walk or talk yet, and now they are looking at other possibilities like neutropenia and even cystic fibrosis (very slim chance. Keep prayers coming for them.

    and I am very sorry that your daughter is going through tough times with the grandson. Gotta remember , he needs all the smiles he can get also and Im sure hes getting plenty. They are very resilient and I know he'll be ok, he has a great family to be with and lots of love to go around. Give him some sugar for me and I sure am glad you are doing well also. It will set you free so you can spend time with them younguns....Lots of love and Hugs.......Buzzard

    So glad that you are getting along so well with all your new "appliances." It will be a change for you but you will soon adjust. With my recent reversal, I now am adjusting again. I wish the best for you and grandson/daughter's situation, I hope that all works out.

    We sure appreciate the prayers.

    Now, as to my ostomy. I had a scare last night. I know everyone told me that I would eventually have some bleeding and mucus from the rectal area that was sewn up. Well, in the middle of the night I just gushed. I've never seen so much blood and then mucus on top of it. As suddenly as it started, it stopped. I am assuming that it just built up in there all week. I will call the doctor today, but now it's all over and maybe I was overreacting? My stitches are pulling and I am so, so sore today.

    Please tell me this is normal. Vicki

    I must say I have never had that happen to me Vicki, no blood, but mucuous does come up, I don't have my rectum sewn up, you may want to call the doctor on that, I hope some stitches didn't come off, maybe Clift can come in and chime on this, I have a temporary ostomy, seeing all that blood may worry me.

    Yep, its normal..........
    when they sew you up back there they will leave an actual drainage hole or two ...very small but none the less a drainage. The fluid will build up until you feel as if your tail is fixing to wreak havoc and all of a sudden it will drain and it feels and looks as if you have peed your pants. Its normal, and it will do it a couple or three times then quit. Its simply fluid from healing and internal healing that needs to escape...Let me ask you this to assure thats what it is....after it happens is there a feeling of complete pressure relief ?"...if so then thats exactly what it is. The fluid was built up enough to force open the small drain holes and drain away the excess and the relief is instantaneous...Very soon the body will be able to absorb all of it and it will not drain anymore and the pressure will lessen as well and life will start getting good again....Sorry buddy, I couldn't tell ya all of the effects or ya might not have gone through with it...LOL...thats all I know for now but if I remember anything else I'll let ya know...I sure do hope though that you are glad you went through with it. It will be a blessing someday soon, I promise...Buzzard...

    Yep, the Doctor confirmed that it is normal, and that mine was just a bit slow releasing so it built up a lot. YES! The pressure relief was great. It was weird, feeling like I had to 'go' but knowing that I couldn't go from there. It's now happened 3 times, so I think it is clearing out and healing.

    In answer to your question, I am VERY VERY happy I did this. I only wish I had done it sooner. Yes, it is different, but I am on track with BM's already and I have CONTROL back. Before surgery I was in the bathroom 30-40 times a day sometimes (no exaggeration!) and now, it's like a 'normal' person. Boyo, the TP and depends people are going to take a stock price dive now! LOL! I used to use at least two rolls of paper a day, minimum. Now it's back to what it was before cancer. I couldn't be happier. And Ethel has settled down in her 'talking' somewhat also, so I feel more comfortable around people.

    Well...there's more
    I have now developed sores, sort of like boils, that hurt and itch. Doc wants to see me right away. They are spreading. Started on my back, then shoulder, now down my arm and one on my chest. I apparently have an infection of some type, even though there is no fever or swelling, etc.

    Wish me luck! I don't want to go back to the hospital for Thanksgiving.

    Turns out I have a staph infection. He said they caught it early and I am now on heavy duty antibiotics - horse pills! They are huge! But it appears that all is ok. The bleeding has stopped and he said the infection is not at the wound site - it's systemic. Whew!

    Sorry Vicki, Im not a Dr but they usually start as small patches of irritated skin like a rash that can't stand to have clothes on them and end up as boils or postules and red inflammation that create serious hurt and discomfort, IE screaming, crying, nerve endings irritated causing severe pain etc....But maybe its staph, dunno, just sittin here prognosing. Waitin on the ham and bird to get done for tomorrow. Bout to starve to death, thinkin bout an egg and cheese sandwich.....how bout it..want one ? Be right there...sorry, I always get kind of wandering thoughts on Wednesday, just type whatever comes to mind...Ok, Im outta here ...tell hubby hi for me...Love ya buddy.....Buzzard

    I am going to PM you. Your grandson's situation is very, very similar to our youngest daughter. She was 19 lbs. at 3 years old. She is now 12. We have been to docs all around the country, Mayo clinic, Boston Childrens, UCLA.

    It's staph
    Yeah, Buzz, I thought shingles too, but it's a staph infection that I probably picked up in the hospital. Shingles would have been all over, at least on the tummy and back, etc. This is in isolated spots just on one arm and shoulder, with one (the original) breakout on the back. We had 2 doctors look at it and they concurred it was staph. It's a little better - hurts rather than itches now - and at least the antibiotics kept it from spreading.

    Hope your Turkey was great! I get mine today. I am venturing out to see the doctor, then heading for my daughter's for our feast.
