Hi Chris,
I am truely sorry to hear about your husbands scans. I have a suggestion for you when we
had trouble getting medical assistance. I called my local congressman's office see if there is any way someone there can help you. Thats there job. Second that to the social worker at the hospital they also have programs that will give you assistance. Since you
are the only one with an income right now you should be able to get something.
Hope this helps a little as far as paying the bills.
I will be praying for you
God Bless

Well....the dr did a scope and the is a "nodule" on his esopheagus. The results won't be back for a few days. Dr. is gonna order a PET, and when i asked him about the spots, he told me the chances are good that it is cancer. My husband won't do anymore chemo and the Dr. said that is the only thing that would help. Radiation won't do it alone. The words "quality of life" were used. Damn I am sooo mad!

Hi Chris,
I am so sorry that you had to here those words, those are words that none of us want to here. Just know that we are here no matter what happens! I know it's hard to be strong and not to let you loved one see how worried you are.
So if you need to vent come here. I have always found comfort from my friends here on this site.
Take it one day at a time!
God Bless

MAYBE THIS WILL HELP
Chris,
Let me see if I can help I work in the medical field so i might be able to give you some suggestions, first off go ask the nurse to speak to a social worker, she will go over things with you, then ask her that you would like to apply for CHARITY, what this is they will review your case, and either give you 100% off your bill (you owe nothing) or they will do it on a sliding scale of anything from 25% to 100%, don't be too proud to do this, the next thing is no hospital can deny you treatment if you have a serious illness, and then tell the social worker you want to apply for T19, that will help pay for his hospital bills, I don't know the laws in your state but all of this is government, and you deserve it, you work you pay taxes and I am sure your husband worked at one time or another. Yes the state card will take time but they should push it through with his diagnosis, the other thing APPLY FOR SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY, right away, with his diagnosis they will push it through immediately, and he should recieve it. You might have to do alot of paper work but it will be worth it in the end, Also know if he refuses treatment that is his wish, you will have to honor his wish, and let it be, If he is ready to meet GOD, than so be it, he is tired of treatments, pokeing and prodding, and he is ready to let it just run its course, but what he don't know is he will be in ER more than he thinks without treatment,
I know how you feel but you are doing all you can do, and no matter what happens you will know in your heart you have done all you can do.
I wish you the best and know you can come here anytime, If I can help let me know
Take care hugs

Lori,
I have set the wheels in motion for state aid. Ironically I have already applied for Social Security Disability. And even more ironically, I work for an Attorney that does Social Security work, but they have already said that it could take a few months. The hospital has been great. After I put this post up yesterday, the hospital called and told me not to worry that they have our account coded that we are applying for aide. I have also told my husband that i would respect whatever he decides. It's just hard because I can't imagine mu life without him. I think...will this be our last Thanksgiving, will this be our last Christmas...thats the hardest part right now.

I am so glad you have started the paperwork, sounds like you knew what to do, I am also glad to hear you work for an attorney and they can help you with no charge, that is great. I know the hospital won't refuse him, they cant, You haven't said how long you have been married to this guy? I understand totally how you feel even though Jeff and I have only been married 3 years we had been together 6 I couldn't imagine my life without him either, so i totally understand.
I am glad to know you respect his wishes, even though you don't agree, men just don't like to be told what to do, even though mine now is okay with me telling him, since he has had cancer, he listens alot better.
You are probably right about this being your last holidays with him, so with that being said you need to enjoy every moment with him when you are home, every breath he takes, and every whisper he talks, because someday he won't be here to enjoy those times with, you just have to say a prayer to GOD, everynight, and remember in your heart you have done everything you possibly could have done, to keep him alive, and when something does happen then you will have no regrets, you will know that you did everything you possible could have done to keep him alive. Its all up to him now to do the rest.
Hopefully he will rethink things and go with the program but if he waits too late he won't be able to do the program.
I totally know how it is living on one income we too are the same way and its hard but you have to believe in your faith and GOD will provide for you.
I am here if you need anything, I have walked your shoes, in fact I was the first one to walk the shoes and go through the surgery as a caregiver and fight the cancer so if you need anything let me know.
take care

Lori,
Thank you. Steve and I have been married 3 1/2 years and been together 6 years in January. He keeps telling me he is gonna fight this, but I don't think he can. He is so weak! Even if he did get chemo, I think it would kill him. I saw what it did to him before, and I never thought I would see something take a 215 pound 6 foot tall man down like to infant. We have some appointments, and they want to do a PET and bone scan. I hope in the back of my mind that someones sneezed on the scan and that is waht they see, but I know deep down shat it is. Everyday when I look at him, it breaks my heart to know that I am gonna loose the man that it took me 34 years to find!
Hugs,

Jeff and I have only been married 3 years also but been together for 6 this is so strange that our husband are fighting this same disease and it took me 51 years to find the right man and two bad marriages that were worthless, I hope he does fight for his life, and strange my husband was a 258 pund man and has went to 223 pounds in 7 months, i didn't think he would fight either but he has he has 3 beautiful grandbabies and one is a grandson that he worships the grand his papa walks on. My husband was and i mean was a heavy drinker, so we he got this I told him you know what I starting this journey with you I will finish this journey with you. I certainly hope he keeps on fighting. I go to every appt with him and I have FMLA leave as needed i am very protective over some things.

Lori,
Amazing how things happen! I hope Steve continiues to fight too. As well as your husband. I am overprotective, Steve calls it my woman drama! Steve has 5 grandchildren and 4 daughters, and my daughter. My daughter took it hard, we told her last night. Steve promised her he would do everything he could, but I honestly don't know if he is gonna make it. I try to be positive, but it's hard. I'm sure you know that. yesterday, I was taking something to the dumpster at work, and this lady and her daughter came out of the foot dr. office. They were chatting and the daughter started to laugh and said ...geez mom it's not like you found out you have cancer...i almost hit her! That made me soooo mad. People are just rude!
Thank you for listening and responding. I am glad I found this site, casue I am sure my friends are tired of hearing it!

Hugs and prayers!
