News for those who have been seeing higher cea numbers out of the blue

here is a link to a discussion on another forum. I noticed several of you have posted about your suddenly elevated cea numbers. It seems there is a new reagent being used that is causing significantly elevated numbers that do not correspond to clinical observations. So hopefully for you all it is just a glitch.

    I'm rarely tested anymore, so, if I were to see a jump in my CEA, I would be VERY concerned!!!

    my Doc. has my CEA Blood work done ever time I see him
    But I never ask for the report he tell me if it up or down never got the numbers

    My oncologist told me
    My oncologist told me yesterday that cigarette smoke can increase CEA (not just being a smoker but being in smoky environments). She said she knew someone (I am not sure if it was a patient or someone she works with), but their CEA rose significantly after a trip to China where lots of smoking occurs.

    Office computers
    My onc views my blood test results and notes on a computer in the exam room. If something is 'off', it's in red. With new regeants being used, might be that the doctors have not fixed their criteria to match. :o)
