jugular involvement
I am going in on April 10th for somethng similiar. I have 3 lymph nodes and 1 is pushing on the carotid artery. He didn't tell me where the other 2 are yet. This will be a recurrance after 2 and 1/2 years. I have Papillary thyroid cancer and am scared this time. I am afraid it has traveled other places.0 -
Question...
My father was told last week that he has a tumor that is wrapped around his corotid and jugular vein in his neck. Anyone know what this is? I am just trying to find out the statistics on this type of cancer. He goes to see the oncologist next week, but I know that he won't tell me everything...and since I live in Germany, it's not like I can go with him! Any help would be great! Even if you can point me in the right direction....
Thank you, Courtney0 -

I know how it feels. In 07 ,had thyroidectomy--1 1/2 years later--mass on jugular and carotid on left side of neck. Had Radical Neck Dissection to remove tumors and cancerous lymph nodes. It has been 7 mo since surgery. Things to expect that docs won't tell U.
1--recuperative time period 12-18 months
2--type of surgery and duration of surgery (they told me 2 1/2 hours for surgery--actually 6 1/2 hours. Intermediate ICU afterwards
3--what kind of insurance-what they will allow (length of hospital stay, home care, physical therapy etc.. Find out from your insurance. I had major surgery and they kicked me out after 20 hrs. I live alone. They sent me home anyway. I had problems caring for myself due to drainage tubes etc...
I know that all of this is overwhelming as my daughter is in Germany. Just a word to the wise--Have someone stay with your father the first to be an advocate. The hospital and the Nurses won't be there. I know that this all sounds pessimistic but if someone had told these things I would have been better prepared that would have helped in my recovery process.
I wish you and your father the very best.
