Hey my friend. I wanted to let you know that over the last few weeks I have started painting and I love it. I have NEVER done any kind of art thing in my life so this painting thing is something new to me. I seen your heart and the love that you put into it. So a few weeks ago my mother in-law come down from Oregon with a bunch of rocks (Crazy woman) and some books by "Lin Wellford" and one day invites me to TRY to paint a rock. After 6 days a did get a rock to look something like a turtle. But more important is that while painting that stupid rock I FORGOT ABOUT MY CANCER. It went away while I painted. All my thoughts where set on painting. For the first time since April I did not think about my cancer. Now it my take me a few weeks to get as good as you. But I want to let you know that if it wasn't for you and that heart i don’t think I would have even tried painting anything. I'm now on my 4th master piece. (Ya right). Maybe someday I'll post one for you to see. I'm off to get some more paint and brushes!!

Thank you
Brooks

    Awesome
O.k. Brooks, this made me cry tears of joy!!!!! It does feel really good to take time to focus on other things. I also found inspiration in Adrian's art, and in hearing what others are up to. I am a quilter, I mess in fabric dying and play some with paints. I am also learning to love playing in the garden.

My sister was here for the weekend to "baby sit" while my husband was helping with a boy scout rocketry campout. I did not feel well enough to help but it was fun watching my sister pick basil from my garden to take home to dry. In the next couple of days after the chemo lets go a bit I will give basil drying a try also. All of these things take my mind off of how I feel and what is going on.

Thanks Brooks, and to all here who share what they enjoy doing, look forward to pictures.

    Wow!
    Hey Brooks!
That makes me feel really good! I'd love to see what you're painting, and I can certainly relate to getting lost in it. When I really get into it, I forget about everything else that's going on in my life. Don't skimp on the brushes - crappy brushes are a waste of money. Splurge a little and get a couple of good ones - it makes a big difference.
    Post some photos!
And thanks for writing - you made my day!

    I been
Thinking of getting back into art myself, I know I can go into my own little world when I do, and used to be one the best artists in my school, too bad I stopped, I should have kept on, but maybe for christmas, I will request my hubby get me a good art set, It's just like how I go out and shop, and just try on clothes, perfumes and makeups, I just do things, and the cancer isn't on my mind, we should all just live like you used to live, don't let the cancer be your focus, do something to get your mind off it, it really does work, you will feel like yourself, and that's a positive thing, it will make you stronger!

Adrian, see how you inspire people as well? ever since I saw your heart, I been wanting to do sketches and paint as well. I love the Thomas Kincaide collection, I think he paints wonderfully and happy stuff, I also love gothy art as well. I'm going to try and do something as well.

    Hugsss to you!

    inspired
I'm glad you found something fun to focus on. For me it's the shows in Branson. Also being out working in the soil. We'd all love to see your work. I wish that I had musical talent but I don't.

    oh thanks Brooks (and since
oh thanks Brooks (and since Adrian was your inspiration, thanks to you too Adrian!)
    for what you say?
    for the wonderful memory
transposed back to my childhood and blissful summers with my grandparents on Madeline Island (one of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior)
and to lazy summer days of painting rocks (I made a mean ladybug), swimming, boating, eating, play, play, play- surrounded by the love of family and the arms of treasured grandparents
and in my time away, digging into the memory, I as well, never once thought of cancer
truly is amazing, the rocks in our lives, eh?

    Brooks,
Art is so good for the soul, isn't it? I used to play flute (it's still up on the shelf in the closet). Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (I had to look this up -- we had learned about this in school) talked and wrote about "flow," and that's what I thought about when I read your post.

I had to cut and past that. Audrey, I'd be interested in the title of the piece about "flow" if you remember it.
    Thanks,
