Home from Hospital
The surgery went really well, it's just that my insides were not cooperating. I'm still in a lot of pain but not as much as the original resection.
I couldn't have any solid foods until Saturday, but that was one of the best meals. I actually can't say that this hospital has bad food because people from all over the area come there "just to eat". They have a chef 24 hours a day with room service 24/7. This is a new hospital with state of the art in every way. The staff was exceptional.
My bowels still don't know what to do. They woke up for about 12 hours and then went back to sleep. I actually had my first stuffed mushroom last night since my ileostomy (no mushrooms) and it was so good. I have to take it easy on the food right now so I didn't have much to eat the last couple days. I'm just glad I can eat.
I have an open wound, which I really wasn't happy about. I have to get this repacked everyday until it heals - about 4-6 weeks.
Now I have to get used to a new type of "normal" again. The doctor said it could take up to a year for my system to finally figure out what it is supposed to do. At least he was honest with me so I can't be so frustrated if things don't go the way I want them to.
So glad I'm home and look forward to being a part of this wonderful board again.
Hugs to you!
Kim

Hiyas Kim!
Soooo glad to see you back home all cozy and safe!
I hate to hear you're in pain, but it will get better every day, at least you're eating now, and for now, until your system gets used to it, it's all "trial and error" from here. It will be soon when you can eat just about anything again. It took my system to get used too the popcorn, and all that, I can basically eat anything now, just a little at a time I do it now.
You should maybe look into getting a wound vac, it's less risk of getting an infection with those open wounds, I'm surprised they didn't give it to you there. It healed my wound alot faster too, it was sore as heck, but each week it will get better. Just rest for now
Glad to see you back! we missed ya!
Hugsss!

Hi Kim,
It's great news that you're home. I haven't had the colon surgery, but I know you'll get a lot of support from people who have had their reversals done. You take care & I'm so glad that you're home now!
Hugs,
Lisa

Bowels
Thanks all for your wonderful replies. Wow I spoke to fast about the bowels going back to sleep - they are glad they are home too as now they won't stop. I'm so glad to see all your smiling faces and names when I came back home. I have such a wonderful family here that it's hard to be away for very long without feeling a little empty. You all are so great. I hope that you are all doing well and I continue to think and pray for you daily.
