My dad has stomach cancer

Second time lucky.....New at this :(

My dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer last December. Early this year he had his first round of chemo and was due to have his stomach removed a couple of months ago but unfortunately this did not go ahead as the doctors had found out that the cancer had spread to his bowels and not treatment is recommended as it is too late. In the last couple of weeks my dad has been feeling really nausea and tired and spends a lot of time sleeping. He is not eathing much either Is there anyone out there in the same situation?? would love to hear from you??

    Well I have been through the process of finding out I had stomach cancer then being told it had spread to my liver and kidneys,so no surgery,I never got the promised chemo, but I had a friend who was able to have the stomach subtotal removal he died ten months after the op.
    Oh! after two years It was found via a PET scan, the liver and kidny cancers were not active but the stomach cancer was,I decided not to risk the stomach op the surgeon wanted to go into my liver as well he suspected it might still be cancerous.I am awaiting the results of my latest scan,I was refused chemo because I had refused the op.
    So here I am untreated and alive.after seven years and I am eighty next year.
    I may give you hope,I could give you help,may be,I dont fit.with not having bowel cancer.

    I had very tired and not wanting to eat spell early on with my cancer .
    My cancer was bleedingso I found I had acute anemia
    Iron tablets made a big difference,not eating makes a big difference too.

    I found that though I felt I could not possibly eat, I just took a mouthful at a time a gradually the meal went down,I was amazed,now I just put it in my mouth and down it goes
    .
    Atitude is a big thing in fighting cancer.no negative thoughts are allowed into my head.
    Also finding an interest in life,something that keeps you interested.

    Learn to love life and people,spirituallity is great for mood changing.
    There is a immune system that fights cancer in everybody ,give it all the help you can.
    Chemo hinders the immune system as well as the cancer growth?
    I have found most people say "who do you think you are?" the doctor is the one to give advise,
    and a lot worse,the slings and arrows of outraged people,sorry but I feel compelled to try to help, part of my cure.or survival plan I guess.

    Hi Octoman,

    your story is very inspirational. I recognise some of the things you've said in my dad's condition and the way he has been behaving especially over the last few months. Eating is still a chore for him and he has bouts of the shivers; at times he feels really down. He was a very fit man having worked hard all his working life and until very recently would walk everywhere - to the TAB, the supermarket, to church - which are all in a couple of blocks of home. Recently he had an episode on one of his walks which means he's now no longer allowed to 'walk' on his own. For us family members, its been hard seeing him literally waste away before our eyes. When the news came that he couldn't have his op, and that the doctors were moving into a 'management' phase it was devastating for him and for us. We feel helpless and so must he. However, hearing your story has given us hope and that, actually, we are already doing one of the things you suggest to help him through this, that is, to lift his spirits by being with him. Since his illness the family has been drawn closer together and he spends much more time with his grand and great grand-children. He is strong in his faith, his family are just reminding him that he's not goin through this alone and I know its having a positive effect on him. So thank you for your kind words and I wish you all the best for the future.

    Well I am so glad You were inspired.
    Thats what your Dad needs to be,inspired.
    And that is up to him to find inspiration because it is there.
    Seek and you will find as bible says.

    I am totally inspired full of love and caring.
    But I do have a struggle at times
    I have found I need to wear a hat night and day or I feel weak and my nose starts to run

    I found I must relax at all times or I get stomach pain and exhausted.

    also I must eat little but often or I go down hill ,but if I follow these rules

    I feel great ,so if your father can find things that aid him like have and things to avoid.

    Self pity is a bad thing it is always waiting to rear its ugly head,recognise it,and stop it in its tracks it is no use what so ever.

    Just thought losing weight is such a worry, I lost a lot, but I have started putting it back on now.

    I believe it was not eating enoughthat caused the weight loss.


    Why am I sending these comments?I guess,trying to help others,helps me.I just thought of that, also my wife is in a lot of pain this morning the doctor saw her in the week,but my wife is a lot worse this morning.so this theraphy for me ,while I think what to do next? My wife had such a awful time earlier this year when she was rushed into hospital,by ambulance.
    she is refusing to go to hospital she had her purse stolen first night and a demented patient tried to suffocate her the next night,so you can see her reluctance .
    I got her out of the awful hospital,and had her treated at home, can I avoid hospital and get home treatment again?

    Hello all.

    My name is Mick and am so inspired by so many stories i have read.
    My father was diagnosed 12 months to the day with Stomach Cancer. Unfortunately when diagnosed last Decemember he was told that the cancer had spread through the stomach lining making it an innoperable situation.
    He was immediately administered chemo therapy and did so for 7 months straight. at the end of the 7 month course the sight was revisited and given the all clear. We couldnt beleive that all our prayers had been answered. To our Horror the cancer returned in a more aggresive form within 6 weeks. He commenced a second course of chemo at the start of October and has improved dramatically. He is eating well gaining weight and has that sparkle back in his eyes again.He is the founder to our strawberry growing business and we are so proud and happy and feel so blessed to have him still with us today. The Doctor says that the sight will be revisited next month.My father is 69 years old and so cherished by the loving family around him. I am so scared of losing dad that i am a nervous wreck,but feel very blessed that we will spendind a special xmas together. Godbless.

    I think the stomach is stopped the internal process.That's the reason he is not eating food or anything.

    Hi Irene ,

    my father was also diagnosed with somach cancer last December. The cancer had spread through to the stomach lining making it an innoperable situation.
    The Doctors told me that with chemo treatment he would be lucky to see 6 months. It has now been over 12 months and he is fighting on.

    I would like to here more about your fathers situation and hopefully i can share with you the many challanges my father faced and how he tackled them.

Another CT scan showed that the cancer tumors had not grown, but they hadn't shrunk either. The doctor doesn't indicate there is any hope. He says hospice is next. Having read that some have continued to live longer than expected, I'm wondering how life is? Are you still experiencing the same pain, tiredness, lack of appetite, etc.? Thanks for taking time to share your experience and knowledge.

    One of my friend got this
    One of my friend got this stomach cancer problem from last three months.
    The cancer is in primary stage,but he is also not taking food properly.Doctors suggested him that stomach is diagnosed after three or four months later and also primary treatment is started also.
